Volleyball Claims the Five-Set Victory over the Terriers

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Saint Francis University women's volleyball defeated the Terriers of St. Francis Brooklyn in a five-set match on Saturday to go 6-14 overall and 4-3 in the Northeast Conference.
 
>> The match was a thrilling back-and-forth battle between both teams with the Terriers claiming sets one and three and the Red Flash claiming sets two, four and five.
 
>> Madi Tyus (Plano, Texas/Bishop Lynch) and Skye Eicher (Rostraver Township, Pa./Frazier) each gained a double-double for the Red Flash on Saturday. Tyus with 23 kills and 12 digs and Eicher with 12 kills and 15 digs.
 
>> Korrin Burns (Shippenville, Pa./Clarion Area) followed closely in behind Tyus with 20 kills on the day, while leading the Red Flash with four service aces.
 
>> Emma Fenton (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) led the Red Flash as a setter with 59 assists in the match, just five away from her career high.
 
TURNING POINT OF THE GAME

With the match tied at two, a fifth set was needed to determine the winner. The fifth set was no different than the other four sets, with both teams battling. With the fifth set tied at 14, kills from Tyus and Burns would seal the final set for the Red Flash, 16-14.
 
FLASH MOMENTS 

The Terriers controlled the first set for the Red Flash to only be able to tie the set on one occasion. St. Francis Brooklyn claimed set one, 25-23.
 
The Red Flash found its stride in the second set, but the set continued to be a close one at the beginning, seeing seven tied scores and three lead changes. However, Once the Saint Francis team gained the lead at 14-10, the Red Flash maintained it for the remainder of set two. A 4-0 run secured the second set for the Red Flash, 25-18.
 
The Terriers started off in control of the third set to hold the six-point lead over the Red Flash. However, Saint Francis worked its way back into set three to tie the set at 11, but the Terriers responded with a 3-0 run to turn set three into a back-and-forth battle between both teams. St. Francis Brooklyn was able to capitalize on its momentum in set three to claim the third set, 25-19.
 
The Terriers maintained control of the fourth set until the Red Flash powered back mid-set to claim the 16-15 lead over the Terriers for the first lead of the set for the Red Flash. The Red Flash maintained the lead for the remainder of the fourth set to claim the fourth set, 25-20.
 
FLASH NUGGETS 

Tyus' 23 kills on Saturday puts her at 1,300 kills in her career, to now put the outside hitter at fourth in kills in Saint Francis women's volleyball program history.
 
In addition, Burns' four service aces was a new single-game career high for the freshman.
 
UP NEXT
The Red Flash will now turn its attention to a single game weekend at home to take on Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday, October 22 at 5:00 p.m.
