Defense Prevails in Football’s Homecoming Victory over Stonehill

LORETTO, Pa.  – Saint Francis University football defeated Stonehill 17-13 and extended its winning streak to five games and has started 4-0 in conference play.
 
What You Need to Know
» Donnell Brown had five total tackles with 1.5 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks and one fourth-quarter forced fumble.
» Elijah Sarratt led the offense with 99 receiving yards and one touchdown while Makai Jackson had a team-high seven catches.
» Gregory Reddick had a season-high 12 tackles and his first interception of the season.
» Joe Toepfer recorded a game-high three tackles for loss, one sack and had one pass breakup.
» Quarterback Cole Doyle went 13-for-21 with 156 passing yards, one touchdown, one interception and a game-high 70 rushing yards.

Turning Points of the Game
Stonehill was on the board first with a 39-yard field goal on the first drive before Saint Francis responded with two touchdowns in the quarter. Horton scored on a one-yard run and Sarratt took a shovel pass 65 yards for a touchdown.
 
With a 14-3 lead most of the second quarter, Saint Francis surrendered another Skyhawks' field goal in the final 20 seconds. In the third quarter, Stonehill's Jermaine Corbett scored on a one-yard run and cut the lead to 14-13. Alex Schmoke converted his only field goal of the game at 5:46 in the third and extended the lead to 17-13.
 
In the fourth quarter, Brown forced a fumble inside the Saint Francis 30-yard line that Colt Jennings recovered. With 2:09 remaining, Saint Francis' Casey McKinney muffed a punt on the Red Flash 25-yard line that was recovered by Mark Conrad. After the recovery, Saint Francis ran the clock out to earn its 17-13 victory.
 
Flash Nuggets
The 5-2 start is Saint Francis' best in its Division I era, which started in 1993. The 4-0 start in conference play is the program's best since the 2016 championship team started 5-0.
 
The Red Flash defense has held all-four of their conference opponents under 270 yards of total offense and has given up 40 total points in those four games.
 
Sarratt now owns the two longest Saint Francis touchdowns of the season (65 yards against Stonehill and 49 yards against LIU). He has now scored in four straight games and is within one touchdown of Jackson's team lead.
 
Toepfer has burst on the scene with nine tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, one fumble recovery and one interception over his last two games. In the first four games, he recorded just eight total tackles, 0.5 sacks and had no takeaways.
