>> The Red Flash head north to face the top seeded Central Connecticut State Blue Devils to close out the 2022 regular season.
>> Saint Francis has a 5-2-1 NEC record and are currently sitting in the fifth spot with a chance to host a postseason game with a win against CCSU.
>> The Red Flash have 16 points left with just one regular season match to go with some other NEC teams such as FDU with 17 and Sacred Heart with 18 points sitting in the third and fourth spots.Â
Saint Francis had one of their best offensive outputs of the entire season when they posted three goals for the second time this season in a 3-1 win against LIU. The Red Flash scored those goals all from three different players with
Corinne Renninger,
Raine Korpics, and
Tomke Dziesiaty finding the back of the net. The scoring started when
Lauren Pyle found Renninger on a corner kick that was headed in perfectly by the fifth-year defender. Just 11 minutes later, Korpics notched her third goal of the year that helped her receive NEC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. Dziesiaty finished off the Sharks scoring the third goal for the Red Flash which ended up being her sixth of the season and has now scored in back to back matches. Dziesiaty ended up receiving her second NEC Player of the Week honor after scoring a goal against St. Francis Brooklyn this past Thursday then following it up with a goal on Sunday.
WORD ON CENTRAL CONNECTICUT STATE
The Blue Devils enter Thursday's contest with the best record in the conference at 6-0-2. Their last two matches have resulted in a tie against FDU and Sacred Heart, both by a score of 1-1. Central Connecticut State is led on offense by Kelly Brady who leads the team in goals with six and points with 14. Brady is also tied for the conference lead in game-winning goals with four. In net, the Blue Devils are guided by junior goalkeeper Caitlin Murphy who has started every match for the team and has recorded 59 saves during the 2022 season.
LAST TIME WE MET
This will be the 20th matchup between these two teams with the Blue Devils winning the previous four matches dating back to 2017. The Red Flash haven't played in New Britain, Connecticut since the 2019 season.
UP NEXT
The Red Flash will find out after Thursday's match if they will host on Sunday for the first round of the NEC Tournament or if they will play on the road to start. If the Red Flash win on Thursday they will host this upcoming Sunday, if they lose they will stay on the road and find out who their next opponent will be. Now, if there is a Saint Francis tie with an FDU loss they can also host because of that tie-breaker scenario, but if there's a Saint Francis tie and a FDU win or tie then the Red Flash will stay on the road for the first round.Â
