Women’s Basketball Travels to No. 25 Michigan

LORETTO, Pa. –
 Saint Francis University women's basketball will play its first ranked opponent, No. 25 Michigan, on Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m.
 
Saint Francis Quick Hits
Filippa Goula led the Saint Francis offense with 12 points and the team's only three assists in the season opener at Robert Morris. Aaliyah Moore grabbed a game-high nine rebounds, which fell one short of tying her career-high of 10. She had four games last season with at least nine rebounds. Layla Laws set a new career-high with five rebounds and two steals and tied her career-high with one block. Freshmen Jade Campbell and Destini Ward saw their first collegiate game action at Robert Morris. Campbell finished with four points and five rebounds and Ward finished with three points and two rebounds. Saint Francis outrebounded Robert Morris 36-28 after the Red Flash outrebounded their opponents in 18-of-30 games last season.
 
Last Time Out
Saint Francis dropped its season opener at Robert Morris 49-36. The Colonials took a 10-0 lead to begin the game The Red Flash scored four points, its first of the game with 1:47 remaining in the first. After Robert Morris led 12-4 at the end of the first quarter, the Colonials went on a 10-2 run and opened a 22-6 lead. Saint Francis cut the lead to 24-10 headed to halftime. In the third quarter, Robert Morris went on an 8-3 before Saint Francis went on a 14-6 run and cut the deficit to 38-27 with under nine minutes remaining in the game. The Colonials extended the lead throughout the remainder of the fourth quarter before a 49-36 victory.
 
Scouting Michigan
Michigan entered the 2022-23 season ranked No. 25 in the Associated Press Top 25 and No. 23 in the USA Today/WBCA Coaches Top 25. The Wolverines were a No. 3 seed in last season's NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Elite Eight before a 62-50 loss to No. 4 Louisville. Michigan began its season with an 83-30 victory over Delaware State. Guard Leigha Brown leads Michigan returners with 14 points per game last season and Emily Kiser returns 8.1 rebounds per game. Brown was named to the Ann Meyers-Drysdale Award Watch List, presented to the top shooting guard in NCAA Division I. Drysdale did not play in the Wolverines' season opener against Delaware State. Laila Phelia led Michigan with 20 points in the opener after she averaged 8.8 points per game last season. Michigan was selected to finish fifth in the Big Ten Preseason Coaches' Poll.

All-Time vs. Michigan
Michigan defeated Saint Francis in the program's only matchup 80-52 in 2005. The game was played in Eugene, Ore. in the third-place game of the Women's Sports Foundation Challenge. The Wolverines led by 36 points at halftime and never led by less than 26 points in the second half. Saint Francis finished 4-24 overall and 4-14 in Northeast Conference play that season, while Michigan was 6-23 overall and 0-16 in Big Ten games.

Around the NEC
All-nine NEC teams played their season opener on Monday, Nov. 7 and LIU is the only team with two games played as of Nov. 10. LIU defeated Ohio University 74-67, Wagner defeated Manhattan 63-60, Sacred Heart defeated Hartford 72-34 and St. Francis Brooklyn defeated The College at Old Westbury 81-15 for the only NEC wins this season. Stonehill lost its first game as a Division I program 60-43 at Lehigh.
