Women’s Basketball Hosts Towson in Home Opener

LORETTO, Pa. –
 Saint Francis University women's basketball has its first home game of the season on Saturday, Nov. 19 against Towson at 7 p.m. The game marks Saint Francis' only home game in the first month of the 2022-23 season.
 
Saint Francis Quick Hits
Filippa Goula produced her second 12-point game this season at Xavier and she continues to pace the Red Flash with eight points per game and seven total assists. Jade Campbell produced the first double-digit rebound game of the season for Saint Francis with 13 against Xavier. She is second in the Northeast Conference with 8.3 rebounds per game and Aaliyah Moore joins her in the NEC top-10 with 6.3 rebounds per game. Layla Laws is third in the NEC with three blocks and Goula and Sam Miller are tied for seventh in the conference with five steals. Freshman Destini Ward is tied with Adison Novosel for second on the Red Flash with 6.7 points per game. Ward has improved her point total in each of the first three games.  
 
Last Time Out
Saint Francis suffered a 78-52 loss at Xavier on Nov. 13. The Red Flash had an 18-12 lead after the first quarter before Xavier produced a 25-point second quarter and led 37-29 at halftime. In the third quarter, Xavier opened with a 15-0 run and outscored the Red Flash 28-9 in the quarter to open a 65-38 lead after three. Saint Francis outscored Xavier 14-13 in the fourth quarter before Musketeers clinched their 78-52 win.
 
Scouting Towson
The Tigers enter Saturday's game with a 1-0 record this season after an 83-72 victory over Longwood on Nov. 12. Towson is off a 24-8 record last season and clinched the WNIT, where the season ended with a 72-66 loss against Old Dominion. Kylie Kornegay-Lucas was named CAA Player of the Week after she dropped 29 points in the season opener against Longwood. She averaged 8.3 points last season. Towson lost its top-two scorers from last season and Anissa Rivera, who scored 12 points against Longwood, is the only player returning a double-digit scoring total. She also led the team last season with 7.1 rebounds per game and grabbed a team-high 11 in the opener. Quinzia Fulmore recorded a double-double in the opener with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Towson is under the direction of first-year head coach Laura Harper, who spent the past two seasons at Coppin State.

All-Time vs. Towson
Towson holds a 5-1 all-time record over Saint Francis since the first meeting in 1985. Saint Francis' only victory came in the most recent matchup, a 78-69 win in 2020. Current Red Flash senior Miller was 4-of-7 with eight points and eight rebounds in the game. Prior to the victory, Towson won the only other two matchups in the 2000s, 65-55 in 2010 and 59-53 in 2011. The other three matchups were all played between 1985-89.  

Around the NEC
Fairleigh Dickinson and LIU currently sit atop the NEC standings as the only two teams with an above-.500 record at 2-1. Wagner is the only other team not below-.500 with an even 2-2 record. Sacred Heart and St. Francis Brooklyn both have one win, while Central Connecticut, Merrimack Saint Francis and Stonehill all remain winless. This weekend, Stonehill visits Fairfield, Central Connecticut is at NJIT, Wagner is at Fordham, Sacred Heart hosts Iona and St. Francis Brooklyn hosts UMBC.
 
Maxwell Out for 2022-23 Season
Saint Francis junior guard Kaitlyn Maxwell will miss the remainder of the 2022-23 season with a torn ACL. She had a successful surgery and is looking forward to a full recovery ahead of the 2023-24 season.
