Women's Volleyball Falls to FDU at NEC Semifinals

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Saint Francis University women's volleyball took a 3-1 loss to the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday in the semifinals of the Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament.
 
>> Maggie Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa./Northern Cambria) led the Red Flash offensively with 13 kills, while also notching a new single game high of six service aces in Friday's match. Skye Eicher (Rostraver Township, Pa./Frazier) followed closely behind Hogan with 13 kills.
 
>> Emma Fenton (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) continued to lead the Red Flash as a setter with 47 assists on the day.
 
TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
The Knights started off the third set similar to how the Red Flash started off the second, with a 4-0 run. However, after a timeout, the Red Flash responded to the Knights lead with a 4-1 run to tie the third set at five to turn the remainder of the third set into a back-and-forth battle. With the Knights up 12-10 in the third set, a kill and three consecutive service aces from Hogan put the Red Flash on top at 14-12 to maintain this lead until the end of the set when the Knights secured a 5-1 run for FDU to clinch the third set, 25-23. This gave the Knights the momentum to be able to go on and claim the fourth set for FDU team to win 3-1.
 
FLASH MOMENTS
The Red Flash controlled the majority of the first set. However, with the Red Flash up 18-15 the Knights notched a 5-1 run to take its first lead of set one since the score was 3-2 to turn the remainder of the first set into a battle. A 3-1 run allowed the Knights to claim the first set, 25-23.
 
The Red Flash found its stride in the second set by starting it off with a 4-0 run to never allow the Knights to lead in set two. A kill from Eicher gave the Red Flash the second set, 25-23 to tie the game at 1-1.
 
Fairleigh Dickinson controlled the fourth and final set. The Knights started off the fourth set with an 11-2 run to never allow the Red Flash to lead in the fourth set. The Knights claimed the fourth and final set, 25-11.
 
FLASH NUGGETS
Despite the loss, the Saint Francis women's volleyball had an incredible 2022 season by entering the tournament as the No. 2 seed and finishing the season overall 12-16 and 10-4 in the NEC.
