SELECT GAME NOTES VS. FRANCISCAN (FULL GAME NOTES PDF)
OPENING TIP
• Wednesday's game between Saint Francis and Franciscan marks the 39th edition of the series dating back to the 1947-48 season.
• It will be the fifth meeting since the series was renewed under head coach Rob Krimmel in 2017-18.
• Saint Francis leads the series 29-9 and has won the last 15 games in the match up.
• The two teams battled at least once a year from 1958-74.
• The statistics and record for the game will count for Saint Francis, but since Franciscan is not an NCAA Division I opponent, record and player stats for the Barons do not count unless they win.
THE WORD ON FRANCISCAN
• Franciscan comes into the contest 0-3 after falling 80-56 to Allegheny on Nov. 19. The Barons also fell 91-72 Saint Vincent on November 16, who the Red Flash will play on December 8 at DeGol Arena
LAST TIME WE MET
• Maxwell Land scored a then-career-high 19 points to lead Saint Francis past Franciscan 100-54 on Nov. 15, 2021.
• Myles Thompson (17 points), Ronell Giles, Jr. (14 points), Ramiir Dixon-Conover (14 points), Josh Cohen (11 points, 11 rebounds) and Mark Flagg (11 points, 10 rebounds) also posted double figures.
last time out... Saint Francis lost 82-76 to Lehigh on Monday.
• Redshirt junior Josh Cohen paced the Red Flash with 40 points. Cohen finished the game connecting on 15 of his 19 shots from the floor and 10 of 13 from the free throw line. He also narrowly missed his first double-double of the season after finishing with nine rebounds, while also adding three assists and a block shot.
• Landon Moore added 13 points, six rebounds and three assists, while Marlon Hargis tallied 10 points and seven rebounds.
AN SFU WIN WOULD
• Be the fifth-straight win against Franciscan since the series was renewed in 2017-18 and the 16th overall
• Move head coach Rob Krimmel to 10-0 against non-Division I opponents
• End a three-game losing streak
• Even the team's record to 2-2 at home
FRANKIES TIDBITS IN A FLASH
• This game marks the 10th time Saint Francis has played a non-Division I opponent under head coach Rob Krimmel.
• Saint Francis is 9-0 in these contests and are averaging 106.3 points per game. The Red Flash are also allowing 63.6 points per game in these contests.
• The only two times Saint Francis did not reach 100 points was against Franciscan in 2017 and 2018.
• The Red Flash has also played Keystone, Chatham, Bethany and Bloomburg in the last nine years.
• The Frankies will also play Saint Vincent (Division III) on December 8, and defeated Hartford 77-53 Nov. 12. Hartford is in the declassification process moving from Division I to Division III and had seven scholarship players in the bout.
• Franciscan will not be the only team from Ohio on the schedule this season. The squad will also travel to Ohio State on December 3.
• Redshirt junior Josh Cohen almost made some history in the last game after scoring 40 points against Lehigh on Monday.
• Twelve times between 1953 and 1991 a Saint Francis player had a 40-point game, but Cohen becomes the first player in 31 years and 901 games (Mike Iuzzolino, 41 points vs. Robert Morris on February 16, 1991) to reach the feat.
• The 40 points in a game are the seventh most in program history and Cohen is now tied with Maurice Stokes, Lamont Harris and Kevin Porter, who all had exactly 40 points in a game. Stokes had exactly 40 points three times and also had a 43-point game.
• Cohen is the first player since Isaiah Blackmon to score over 30 points in a game when he posted 30 points against Robert Morris on February 18, 2020. Darshan Luckey is the only other player this century to register over 35 points in a game when he scored 39 points at Mount St. Mary's on February 21, 2005. FUN FACT: Three people at the game on Monday were also present at Luckey's game at Mount St. Mary's in 2005. Krimmel was an assistant coach at the time with the Red Flash, Assistant AD for Athletic Communications Dave Musil was in his second season as an Assistant SID that night at the Mount and was inputting stats on stat crew for the game, and Red Flash play-by-play announcer Pat Farabaugh was in his final year as the SID with the Red Flash.
• Cohen also becomes the first player in the Northeast Conference to drop 40 against a non-league Division I foe since CCSU's Matt Hunter had 40 points against Indiana on Dec. 8, 2012.
• Saint Francis is looking to stop a three-game losing streak in its next game against Franciscan.
• From 2014-20, Saint Francis only had four losing streaks of three games or more. In the previous two seasons the squad has posted a three-game losing streak three times each season.
• Saint Francis will wrap its three-game homestand on Saturday night against American. The Hollidaysburg Little League Baseball team will be in attendance and honored at halftime.
• It is the first time the team has had a three-game non-conference homestand since 2006-07 and the 10th time since joining the NEC.
