Women's Basketball Looks to take on Marquette in Sunday Matinee

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis University women's basketball will continue on the road by taking on Marquette on Sunday, Nov. 27 at 2 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. CT

Saint Francis Quick Hits
Saint Francis comes into Sunday's matchup against the Golden Eagles 0-6 overall. The team had its closest chance at a win at Morgan State in a heart breaking 59-60 loss on Monday, Nov. 22. Morgan State never led in the second half of the game until the final free throw by the Bears to secure the win. Layla Laws leads the Red Flash in three statistical categories this season with 58 points, 10 steals and six blocks so on the season. Adison Novosel leads Saint Francis from behind the arch with 10 three-pointers on the season. Aaliyah Moore stands on top for the Red Flash in rebounding with 51 boards so far this season.
 
Last Time Out
Saint Francis most recently dropped a 56-69 game at Loyola Chicago on Friday, Nov. 25. Despite the loss, Layla Laws led both teams in scoring on Friday with a new game high of 19 points, while also leading the Red Flash defensively with two blocks and three steals. Aaliyah Moore led the Red Flash with nine boards on the day and followed closely in behind Laws with 10 points on the day for a new game high in scoring for Moore. Loyola started the game off with an 11-0 run to never allow Saint Francis to lead in the game.
 
Scouting Marquette
The Golden Eagles comes into Sunday's game 5-1 overall. Marquette opened its season with a successful win over NEC foe, Fairleigh Dickinson and have had successful wins over Holy Cross, Milwaukee, Gonzaga and nationally ranked Texas. The team's one loss this season came in its most recent outing against nationally ranked UCLA at the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas. Chloe Marotta leads the Golden Eagles in scoring and rebounding with 83 and 46, respectively this season, while Liza Karlen follows closely behind with 81 points and 45 rebounds.
 
All-Time vs. Marquette
Saint Francis and Marquette have met a total of three times in program history with all three meetings being in Milwaukee. The last time Marquette and Saint Francis met was in 2016 when the Golden Eagles defeated the Red Flash in a high-scoring 91-104 loss. Saint Francis women's basketball has notched one win over Marquette in the overall series in a close 64-62 win for the Red Flash which came in the two team's first ever meeting in the 2002-03 season.
 
Around the NEC
The Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson currently stand on top of the Northeast Conference (NEC) this season after having successful wins over Cornell, Bucknell, UIC and Davidson. The Knights opened up its season at Marquette on Nov. 7 where the Golden Eagles won in a defining 47-75 victory. Wagner and LIU come in behind Fairleigh Dickinson at second and third, respectively after both teams gaining two victories this season. CCSU, Sacred Heart and St. Francis Brooklyn have each picked up one win this season, while Merrimack, Stonehill and Saint Francis still look to notch a win in each of its 2022-23 campaign.

Following Sunday's game, the Red Flash will have a long break before returning back to action at home on Dec. 8 to take on Vermont for a 5 p.m. tip-off.
