OPENING TIP

• Monday's game between Saint Francis and Saint Bonaventure marks the 44th meeting in the all-time series dating back to the 1919-20 campaign.
• This will be only the sixth meeting between the two Franciscan schools since the turn of the century.
• The Red Flash went 6-2 in the series from 1948-59, but the Bonnies have gone 13-2 since that stretch.

LAST TIME WE MET
• Saint Bonaventure defeated Saint Francis 92-82 on November 11, 2016.
• Jamal King led the way for the Red Flash with 21 points, while Randall Gaskins, Jr. (12 points), Georgios Angelou (11 points), Josh Nebo (11 points) and Keith Braxton (11 points) also found double figures.
• Jaylen Adams and Denzel Gregg each had 23 points for the Bonnies. Matt Mobley (21 points) and Josh Ayeni (10 points) also had double figures.

FRANKIES TIDBITS IN A FLASH
• This marks only the second time Saint Francis and Saint Bonaventure will tangle in the inaugural game of the year.
• The last time the two teams played was also the season opener in 2016-17.
• A season-opening affair was on the docket for the 2020-21 schedule, but the game was cancelled due to CoVID-19.
• The Red Flash has been on the road in every season opener with head coach Rob Krimmel, who is entering his 11th season at the helm.
• Saint Francis 1-9 under Krimmel in the season opener with the one win being an 80-70 win at Pittsburgh to start the 2020-21 campaign.
• It will be the sixth time Krimmel has opened up against an Atlantic-10 opponent: Fordham (2013-14), Bonnies (2016-17, 2022-23), VCU (2019-20), George Washington (2021-22).
• Saint Francis will open in the state of New York for the fourth time under Krimmel: Forham (2013-14), Bonnies (2016-17, 2022-23) and Buffalo (2018-19).
• The Red Flash will open up the season on the road for the 38th time since the 1950-51 season, and for the 16th time since the turn of the century.
• The squad is 36-36 in season openers since the 1950-51 campaign. Saint Francis is 32-3 at home and 4-33 on the road in that stretch.
• Saint Bonaventure head coach Mark Schmidt is 12-3 against the Red Flash. Schmidt coached Robert Morris from 2001-07 and posted a 9-3 mark against Saint Francis in that time frame. Schmidt has won all three meetings against the Red Flash at Saint Bonaventure.
• Schmidt has won the last eight games against Saint Francis he has coached.
• The Red Flash will return home to make its 2022-23 DeGol Arena debut on Saturday against Hartford in the Jack Phelan Classic. Tipoff is 7 p.m.
• Saint Francis will play six home games this season for the first time since the 2007-08 season.
• Krimmel returns nine players from last season's team including redshirt seniors Marlon Hargis and Myles Thompson, who both return thanks to the extra year provided due to CoVID-19.
• Thompson is the last holdover that played in the NEC Championship Game in 2019-20. He enters his final season needing 52 points for 1,000 and 44 rebounds from 500 for his career.
• Saint Francis was picked third in the NEC Preseason Coaches Poll. Merrimack and Sacred Heart were picked ahead of the Red Flash.
• Redshirt junior Josh Cohen was named to the All-NEC Preseason team after leading the team in points, rebounds and blocks.
