LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis University women's basketball has its 2022-23 season-opener against former Northeast Conference rival Robert Morris on Monday, Nov. 7 at 11 a.m.
 
Saint Francis Quick Hits
Kaitlyn Maxwell leads Red Flash returning players with 8.4 points per game last season, followed by Sam Miller's 6.9. Maxwell's 40.5 three-point field goal percentage finished eighth in single-season program history. Aaliyah Moore returns her 5.2 rebounds per game, which was second on the team despite being seventh on the team with 18.6 minutes per game. The Red Flash have seven returning players and eight new players, which includes six freshmen, one sophomore and one junior. Filippa Goula headlines the group of new players after she spent two seasons at Northeastern Junior College and averaged 16.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.8 steals per game in her sophomore season. She was also a member of the Greece National U16, U18 and U20 teams.
 
Scouting Robert Morris
The Colonials went 11-11 in Horizon League games and 14-15 in their second season outside the NEC. Robert Morris improved upon its 4-12 Horizon League debut season. The 2021-22 season ended in the Horizon League Tournament quarterfinals with a 72-41 loss against eventual champion IUPUI. The Colonials were selected to finish ninth out of 11 teams in the Horizon League Preseason Poll. Robert Morris lost two of its top three scorers from last season, as Sol Castro returns her 8.6 points and team-high 5.4 rebounds and 0.6 blocks per game. Mackenzie Amalia had a team-high 38 three-point field goals last season and leads returners with 1.2 assists per game and is second with 5.2. points per game. Alejandra Mastral's 0.9 steals per game leads returners after the top-three from last season graduated.

All-Time vs. Robert Morris
Robert Morris holds a 48-42 all-time advantage over Saint Francis since the first matchup on Dec. 15, 1976. Robert Morris is 31-14 when hosting Saint Francis. As a long-time member of the NEC, Robert Morris and Saint Francis met 11 times in the tournament and the Red Flash hold a slight 6-5 advantage in those games. Both programs had a matchup-long 16-game winning streak, Robert Morris from 1977-89 and Saint Francis 1996-04. The Red Flash won 25-of-26 meetings between 1992-04. In the last matchup between the programs, Robert Morris defeated Saint Francis 62-29 in 2020 and Miller led the Red Flash with seven points in that game.

Around the NEC
With membership changes to the NEC this season, both programs in the 2022 NEC Championship, Bryant and Mount St. Mary's, departed for the America East and MAAC, respectively. Fairleigh Dickinson is off a 15-3 conference season that earned the Knights NEC Regular Season Champions, though Wagner was selected to finish first in the NEC Preseason Poll with five votes. All-nine NEC teams will play on the college basketball opening on Monday, Nov. 7. Stonehill will play its first game as a Division I opponent against Lehigh.
