Women’s Basketball Hosts Hartford in Final Non-Conference Game

LORETTO, Pa. –
 Saint Francis University women's basketball concludes the non-conference schedule with a matchup against Hartford on Friday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. Both teams will seek their first victory of the 2022-23 season.
 
Saint Francis Quick Hits
The Red Flash enter Friday's game after a one-game trip to the Tulane Holiday Tournament after VCU withdrew from the event. Saint Francis looks to defeat its first non-conference opponent since a 67-64 win over Kent State on Dec. 9, 2020. Aaliyah Moore leads Saint Francis with 7.9 points per game, 9.2 rebounds per game and eight blocks. Her rebounds per game lead the Northeast Conference by 1.8 and her 0.7 blocks per game rank seventh. Layla Laws moved to second on the team with 7.8 points per game and ranks sixth in the NEC with 1.5 steals per game. She recorded her third double-digit point output with 10 points at Tulane and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
 
Last Time Out
Saint Francis dropped its final non-conference road game on Dec. 20 at Tulane, 84-41. Sam Miller scored the game's first basket before Tulane put together a 10-2 run and took a 10-4 lead three minutes into the game. With the score 19-11 with 3:30 remaining in the first quarter, the Green Wave finished the quarter on a 16-0 run and took a 35-11 lead. In the second quarter, Tulane outscored Saint Francis 19-13 and led by 30, 54-24, at the half. Both teams were held scoreless in the first three minutes of the third quarter and Tulane had a scoring advantage 5-2 through the first five minutes of the quarter. The Green Wave finished the third quarter 67-29 before they finished with a 17-12 advantage in the fourth to clinch the 84-41 victory.
 
Scouting Hartford
The Hawks enter Friday's matchup with an 0-14 overall record with a minus-31.5 scoring margin. Hartford is currently a Division I Independent, as there is a plan in place to drop athletics to Division III within the next few years. Hartford has faced four NEC opponents, Central Connecticut, LIU, Sacred Heart and Stonehill, and has lost by a combined 273-178. Hartford's closest margin of defeat and highest point output was a 14-point, 69-55, loss to Central Connecticut. The Hawks have 12 games settled by at least 20 point and six settled by at least 30 points. Tatum Forbes leads the Hawks with 7.7 points per game, a 32.1 field goal percentage, 15 steals and ranks second with 4.3 rebounds per game. Elena Houghton leads the team with 5.2 rebounds per game and 17 blocks. As a team, Hartford shoots 26.8-percent from the field and holds a minus-18.5 rebounding margin.
 
All-Time vs. Hartford
Saint Francis is 0-1 all-time against Hartford with a 59-51 loss in 1990. The loss was during a season-long six-game losing streak from Dec. 8 to Jan. 5. During the 1990-91 season, Saint Francis went 11-17 overall and 9-7 in NEC play.
 
Around the NEC
Fairleigh Dickinson will end as the only NEC team above-.500 in non-conference play with a 7-4 record. Wagner is second with a 5-6 record at the conclusion of its non-conference season. Only four more NEC teams play a non-conference game – Stonehill against Queens on Dec. 29, Fairleigh Dickinson against Delaware State and Saint Francis against Hartford on Dec. 30 and Sacred Heart against Mercy on Dec. 31. Eight of the nine NEC teams will be in action for the start of conference play on Jan. 2.
