WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Saint Francis University men's volleyball defeated Harvard University on Saturday, 3-1 to go 4-0 in conference.
Blake Liprando (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) led the Red Flash overall with 20 kills, two blocks and nine digs for a total of 20.5 points on the day for Liprando.
Trevor Lewis (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) and
Andrew Deardorff (Itasca, Ill./Lake Park) followed closely behind with eight kills on the day.
Thomas Leahey (State College, Pa./State College Area) led the Saint Francis men's volleyball team with three serving aces on the day. While
Joshua Blair (Matterson, Ill./ Marian Catholic) came up with two serving aces on the day.
Ryan Parker (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) led both programs in assists with 41 in the match.
TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME
After Harvard claimed its only set of the match in the third set, the Red Flash men's volleyball program bounced back in the fourth and final set to claim the victory. The set went back-and-forth at first, but after a kill from Liprando, the Red Flash took the lead to make the score 5-4 and never allowed Harvard University to lead again in the match. It was kills from Lewis and Leahey that allowed the Red Flash to claim the 3-1 victory over the Crimson.
FLASH MOMENTS
The Crimson led the Red Flash to start the match off in the first set, but after a 3-0 run from the Red Flash that featured kills from Leahey and Blair and a service from Leahey, the Red Flash took a one-point lead to make the score 9-8. Saint Francis men's volleyball never allowed Harvard to lead again in this set. The Crimson did come back to tie the set to make the score 25-25 for an extended first set. It was back-to-back kills from Blair both set from Parker that allowed Saint Francis to claim the first set, 27-25.
The Red Flash never allowed Harvard to take the lead in the second set until the Crimson went on a 3-0 run to make the score 19-18. However, a kill from Deardorff put the Red Flash back on top to stay there for the remainder of the second set. A service error and attack error from the Crimson clinched the second set for the Red Flash, 25-22 to make the squad just one set away from victory.
The Crimson team finally found its rhythm early on in the third set. The Red Flash got on the board first in the third set, but after Harvard men's volleyball took a 2-1 lead, the squad kept its lead for the remainder of the third set for the Ivy League team to claim the third set, 25-19.
FLASH NUGGETS
Saint Francis University, Penn State and NJIT remain the only three teams undefeated in EIVA conference action.
With Saturday's win, the Red Flash are now 12-13 overall against the Crimson.
Prior to the victory on Saturday, the last time the Red Flash defeated the Crimson was in 2019 in a five-set match.

The Red Flash will now return to Pennsylvania to take on Queens University of Charlotte on Friday, Feb. 18 at 7:00 p.m. Followed by a trip to Penn State University on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 7:00 p.m.
