Saint Francis University men's volleyball took a 3-0 loss at Penn State University on Saturday.
Joshua Blair (Matterson, Ill./ Marian Catholic) and
Thomas Leahey (State College, Pa./State College Area) led the Red Flash in kills with five a piece on the day.
Trevor Lewis (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) led the squad with six digs in the match. Lewis and
Andrew Deardorff (Itasca, Ill./Lake Park) put up one serving ace each in the game.
TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME
After Penn State University claimed the first two sets, the Nittany Lions continued that spark in the third set as well. The Red Flash did hang in closely with Penn State men's volleyball for a while in the third set. However, the Nittany Lions were able to claim the third and final set, 25-20 to claim the 3-0 victory over Saint Francis University.
FLASH MOMENTS
Saint Francis men's volleyball claimed its biggest lead in the first set with a three-point advantage over the Nittany Lions to make the score 9-6 that started with a kill from Deardorff. The Red Flash maintained control early in this set to not allow Penn State to take the lead until mid-set to make the score 14-13. The Nittany Lions followed this up by going on a 4-1 run to make the score 18-14. Penn State remained on top for the remainder of the first set to claim it, 25-21.
Penn State men's volleyball was fueled from claiming the first set to start off the second set with 6-0 run and never allowed Saint Francis to lead in this set. The Red Flash finally got on the board in the second set after a kill from
Joey Ferragonio (Irwin, Pa./Norwin). The Nittany Lions claimed the second set, 25-10 to make the State College, Pa., squad just one set away from victory.
FLASH NUGGETS
After Saturday's match, the Nittany Lions continue to lead between both programs with an overall record of 49-3.
The Red Flash will get another chance to compete against Penn State this season in DeGol Arena on April 2.
With the loss on Saturday, the Red Flash are now 4-1 in the EIVA and 7-5 overall. While Saint Francis men's volleyball continues to remain undefeated at home.

The Red Flash now turns its attention to a three-day road trip featuring NJIT on Friday, Feb. 25 at 7:00 p.m. and St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 8:00 p.m. Followed by a non-conference matchup against the Sharks of Long Island University on Sunday, Feb. 27 at 2:00 p.m.
