Saint Francis University men's volleyball defeated the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson University on Friday in a straight set sweep.
With Friday's sweep, the Red Flash stay undefeated at home and improve to an 11-6 overall record.
Joshua Blair (Matterson, Ill./ Marian Catholic) led the Red Flash overall in kills with 11. While tying with
Brandon Dunz (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier) for three blocks for the two middle blockers. Dunz also recorded eight kills in the match.
Blake Liprando (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) led in serving aces with two. While also recording nine kills and four digs.
AJ Schmidt (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) led his squad overall in assists and digs with 32 and four, respectively.
TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME
The Red Flash started off the match with a 2-0 run in set one that featured kills from
Nathan Zini (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-La Salle Catholic) and Blair. Saint Francis men's volleyball did not allow the Knights to lead throughout the start of the first set until the Teaneck, N.J., squad went on a 12-2 run to take the lead and make the score 20-16. However, the Red Flash were not finished yet for the squad to go on a 7-3 run thanks to kills from Blair and Zini and a service ace from Liprando. It was a kill from
Andrew Deardorff (Itasca, Ill./Lake Park) that secured the 25-23 first set for the Red Flash. This was the spark Saint Francis men's volleyball needed to be able to go on and claim the next two sets to secure the 3-0 victory.
FLASH MOMENTS
The Knights got on the board first to start the second set and both teams continued to go back-and-forth throughout the second set tying and leading on several occasions. A kill from Zini gave the Red Flash the 10-9 lead to never allow Fairleigh Dickinson to lead again in this set and clinch the second set at a score of 25-21 to make the squad one set away from victory.
The Red Flash never allowed the Knights to lead in the third set after starting it off with a 2-0 run. Back-to-back kills from Dunz secured the third and final set for Saint Francis with a score of 25-19 to claim the 3-0 victory over the Knights.
FLASH NUGGETS
With Friday's match being the first meeting between the two programs, the Red Flash now lead the series with an overall record of 1-0.
