LORETTO, PA - Continuing our preparation for the 2022-23 season, Saint Francis University is proud to announce the signing of six more athletes! For our cheer and dance teams, "signing" means that these athletes have shown better than average skills and have been invited to try out for our program. Signing a letter of intent to try out for our program does not guarantee placement on a team, however we are confident these athletes will excel throughout the process.

Some of these athletes reached out to us with a video of their skills. Others were met either during football season or competition season. Our major recruiting event for cheer is the Pennsylvania State Cheerleading Championships held in Hershey. Many dance competitions are held at the Blair County Convention Center where we scout talented dancers. Saint Francis University is a smaller sized school so, after finding an athlete that has a solid back handspring or turns, tight stunting foundation or dance technique and confidence in front of a crowd, we look for students that enjoy a smaller class size in a rural area. If you do not enjoy the university you attend, what are the chances you are going to graduate with good grades?  We seek balance. 

Congratulations to Lexi, Pyper, Alli, Hailey, Alexis and Aaliyah for signing a letter of intent to try out for our cheer or dance team. We actively invited them to join this process knowing that they will have amazing results. The Red Flash Family is extremely excited to help these six athletes grow academically and athletically.

These three cheerleaders bring a multitude of talents with them to our program. Better than that, they are all very positive people and kind to their teammates (something we greatly value at Saint Francis University). Tryouts for the Red Flash begin on April 22 with an optional networking event to meet alumni and current team members. That Saturday is a long day of skills practice and Sunday concludes with the actual tryout. Our current team is graduating 7 seniors, leaving 21 returners. However, we look to fill 32 total spots which includes 4 males.

A special shout to a recruit from the fall, Caitlin Harshberger. Her gym team, TAI - Ice Queens won CHEERSPORT Nationals (Atlanta, GA), NCA All-Star Nationals (Dallas, TX) and placed 2nd at UCA International All-Star Championships (Orlando, FL). Winning each of these competitions is considered the Triple Crown of Cheerleading and they came so close! However, if you look at the scoresheets, the Ice Queens did come out with the highest total score of all Level 4 teams this year. Congratulations Caitlin, the Red Flash are so proud of you!

Tumbling is not required but it does help your tryout score very much. Depending on your year, tryout score and teams you make will determine your scholarship of between $400 and $2,000. We ask that team members dedicate up to 12 hours per week to our program. Our coaching staff includes: Academic Advisors, Mentors, Chaplains, Athletic Trainers, Strength Coaches, Program Nutritionist and Program Life Coach. We are also proudly sponsored by Under Armour®.
