Men’s Volleyball Falls in Last Regular Season Match to Charleston

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Saint Francis University men's volleyball lost a four-set match to The University of Charleston to conclude regular season action on Saturday.
 
Saturday's loss places Red Flash men's volleyball as the No.5 seed in the EIVA Tournament to play in the First Round of the tournament against Princeton University on Wednesday, April 20.

The Red Flash won the second set, but the Golden Eagles were able to come up with first, third and fourth sets. 
 
Nathan Zini (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-La Salle Catholic) led the way for the Red Flash with 18 kills and notched a new career game best of 26 total attacks.
 
Alex Finch (Mount Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) followed closely behind with 14 kills on the day.
 
Zac Cabral (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) put up a new career high of seven blocks.
 
AJ Schmidt (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) collected a new single game career high of 11 digs
 
TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME

The biggest turning point of the match came in the fourth set. With the Red Flash down two sets to one, the squad had to win the fourth set to say alive in the match. The fourth and final set went back and forth between both programs. However, with the final set tied at 24, the Golden Eagles were able to come up with a 2-0 run to secure the final set for the 3-1 victory for Charleston.
 
FLASH MOMENTS
Despite the loss, the Red Flash were able to claim the second set of the match with a score of 25-17. With the second set tied 17-17, Red Flash men's volleyball was able to come up with an 8-0 run that featured kills from Brandon Dunz (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier), Finch and Cabral.
 
In addition, both the first and third sets were battles between both men's volleyball programs with just the final plays of each set determining.  
 
FLASH NUGGETS
Despite Saturday's loss, Saint Francis still holds the overall record against the Golden Eagles at 11-5. However, this marks the first time The University of Charleston has defeated the Red Flash since early last season.
 
UP NEXT
The Red Flash will now turn its attention to the EIVA Tournament. The squad will face Princeton University on Wednesday, April 20 at 7:00 p.m. at host school, Penn State University.
