Saint Francis Student-Athletes Boasts Fourth Highest GPA; Women's Tennis Records Highest GPA In Saint Francis History

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis University student-athletes continue to excel in the classroom, boasting above a 3.0 grade-point average for the 47th-straight semester, which is over 23 years consecutively. The total athletic department grade-point average of 3.390 is the fourth highest dating back to the fall of 2003. The student-athletes posted a 3.387 grade-point average, which now sits fifth after sliding down a spot for the 2022 spring number, while the Top-5 grade-point averages have occurred in the last seven semesters.

"I am extremely proud of our Red Flash student-athletes for the academic success that every team demonstrated in the spring 2022 semester!" said Amy McNally, Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Development and Academic Services.  "All our winter and spring sport athletes really dedicated this semester to not only excel in their sport at the highest level of competition but excel in the classroom as well! I am looking forward to seeing that same level of commitment for the all 2022 semester!"

A total of 415 student-athletes achieved a 3.0 grade-point average or better for 84 percent of the athletes at Saint Francis. The numbers continue to be impressive the higher it goes with 288 student-athletes (58 percent) boasting a 3.50 grade-point average or better with 75 (15 percent) student-athletes registering a perfect 4.0 grade-point average for the fall semester.

Women's swimming and women's soccer led the way with seven student-athletes each achieving a 4.0 grade-point average. Football (5), men's volleyball (5), women's volleyball (5), men's tennis (5), women's tennis (5), women's swimming (5), field hockey (4), women's cross country (3), men's soccer (3), women's water polo (3), cheerleading (3), men's cross country (2), men's golf (2), women's golf (2), women's lacrosse (2), softball (2), men's track and field (2), dance (1), men'n basketball (1), women's basketball (1) and women's bowling (1) registered athletes with perfect 4.0 grade-point averages.

"With every final GPA, I am continually proud of our student-athletes," said Shannon Corbett, Associate Director of Student-Athlete Development and Academic Services. "All of their hard work is shown in these huge accomplishments. Each athlete, on and off the field, demonstrates what it means to be a true STUDENT-athlete.  I am so proud to be a part of the Red Flash Family because of them!" 

Student-athletes are members of teams and 24 of the 25 athletic programs in Loretto finished with a 3.0 grade-point average or better with 14 teams registering at least a 3.5 grade-point average: women's tennis (3.976), women's soccer (3.614), women's indoor track and field (3.585), women's outdoor track and field (3.585), softball (3.583), field hockey (3.564), women's basketball (3.541), men's soccer (3.541), dance (3.541), women's swimming (3.539), women's lacrosse (3.515) and women's bowling (3.505).

The women's tennis team posted the highest grade-point average in the spring semester with a 3.976, the highest grade-point average in Saint Francis history. The women's tennis team has recorded four of the Top-5 grade-point averages in school history.
