Moore Helps Saint Francis Men's Basketball Hold Off Wagner For First Road Win, 68-63

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Landon Moore (Bloomington, Ill.) gave Saint Francis the lead for good midway through the second half and went 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the final 31 seconds to propel Saint Francis past Wagner 68-63 in Northeast Conference (NEC) men's basketball action on Saturday.
>> For the second-straight game Moore was clutch in the second half posting 12 of his 15 points while adding six rebounds, and five assists on the afternoon.
>> Josh Cohen (Lincroft, N.J.) led the Red Flash with a NEC career-high 27 points along with seven rebounds, two blocks and a steal.
>> Maxwell Land (Cincinnati, Ohio) added 17 points, five rebounds, two steals and an assist.
>> Saint Francis begins the NEC slate for the third time in program history and the first time since the 2002-03 season.

TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
The Red Flash held the lead for the majority of the game, but the Seahawks made runs to make the game close. After Wagner tied the game at 44, Moore hit a basket with 9:47 left to give the Loretto program the lead for good. Cohen added a basket and Land hit a triple to extend the lead to seven points.

The Seahawks cut the margin to 57-56 with 60 seconds left and had the ball, but Land came up with a huge steal on the inbounds pass and he made two free throws. Wagner cut it to one-point again at 64-63 and got the ball back off a turnover, but a missed shot was corralled by Moore for the defensive rebound. Land, Cohen and Moore went 10-for-11 from the free throw line down the stretch.

FLASH QUOTES
"Certainly, a good feeling to come on the road and execute down the stretch, make our free throws and get our first road win. I told the team that I know we had a challenging non-conference schedule and spent a lot of time on the road against some really good opponents. For 40 minutes it was a basketball game and I am proud of the way that we executed. A call didn't go our way late and I told the group that I was proud of the way they responded. We only had one option and that was to get a stop and we did. We now have a formula on what it takes to win on the road." – head coach Rob Krimmel on the game

FLASH MOMENTS
After Wagner grabbed a 4-0 lead, Saint Francis went on a 19-5 run to take a 19-9 advantage with 8:17 left in the stanza. Cohen had six points and Land added five points in the spurt.

The Seahawks came back to cut the margin to 21-20, but the Red Flash closed the half by scoring eight of the final 10 points of the half to go into the locker room with a 29-22 lead. Cohen hit a jumper and Land had a trey before Moore hit three from the free throw line after he was fouled with 1.1 seconds left on the clock.

Saint Francis had the lead and Wagner came back to tie or cut the lead to one point throughout the second half, but the Red Flash had an answer each time to earn its third-straight victory.

FLASH NUGGETS
Moore has posted double figures in five-straight games and is averaging 18.2 points per game in that stretch. The six rebounds also ties his career high for boards.

Cohen's 27 points is his fifth-highest total this season, but eclipses his NEC career high of 26 points he set against Merrimack at home last season.

Land has posted double figures in three-straight games and 16 of his last 21 NEC contests. The junior moved ahead of Krimmel on the program's all-time career point list.

Brad McCabe (Manasquan, N.J.) dished out a career-high seven assists and added three rebounds, a steal and a block on the afternoon.

The Red Flash has won three-straight games since it enjoyed an eight-game winning streak January 30-February 27, 2020.

The Loretto program earns its first win on the road after going 0-7 on the road in non-conference play.  In 2018-19, the squad also went 0-7 on the roads before league started and earned its first road win with a 74-67 win at LIU on January 10, 2019 in the team's first NEC road test of the season. The team would go 6-3 on the road that season in NEC play and 6-3 at home to finish with a 12-6 league record and the No. 1 seed in the NEC Tournament.

Saint Francis has been 2-0 10 times in program history, but this marked the first time the team won its first road game to improve to 3-0 in league play.
