Women’s Basketball Travels to Central Connecticut on Sunday

LORETTO, Pa. –
 Saint Francis University women's basketball concludes its first conference road trip of the season Sunday, Jan. 8 at Central Connecticut for a 6 p.m. tip-off. The Red Flash are off a 56-52 victory over Stonehill in their first conference win of the season.
 
Saint Francis Quick Hits
Aaliyah Moore produced her sixth double-digit rebound game of the season against Stonehill and ranks tied for 26th in the NCAA Division I. She leads the Northeast Conference in rebounds per game by 2.4 and also ranks seventh in the conference with 0.6 blocks per game. Her 8.2 points per game lead Saint Francis, followed by Layla Laws' 7.4 and Filippa Goula's 7.1. Goula's 92.3 free throw percentage ranks top-10 in the NCAA amongst players with at least 2.5 makes per game. Saint Francis committed only five turnovers against Stonehill, which was tied for second-fewest in single-game program history. The performance came after Saint Francis entered the game averaging 25.3 turnovers per game and dropped the season total to 23.4.
 
Last Time Out
Saint Francis won its first conference road game for the seventh time in the past eight seasons with a 56-52 win over Stonehill. Both teams traded scores to start the game before the Skyhawks opened up a seven-point lead four minutes in. The Red Flash responded with 10-2 run to end the quarter and held a 17-16 lead. In the second quarter, Saint Francis held a slight edge through the frame and took a 33-29 lead into halftime. Saint Francis led by between five and nine points for the entire third quarter before a Destini Ward jumper at 9:35 remaining in the fourth gave the Red Flash its first double-digit lead, 48-38. Stonehill produced a 10-1 run across a seven-minute span and cut the Saint Francis lead to 49-48 with 2:32 remaining in the game. Two possessions later, Moore scored on a layup and extended the lead to 51-48 before Bramanti cut the lead to 51-50. In the final minute, Saint Francis converted five-of-six free-throw attempts to clinch its 56-52 victory.
 
Scouting Central Connecticut
The Blue Devils enter Sunday's game with an 0-2 conference and 3-10 overall record. Central Connecticut suffered a 73-66 loss to Stonehill in the conference opener and 65-59 loss to St. Francis Brooklyn in its last game. Dejah Jenkins leads the Blue Devils with 11.1 points per game, which ranks top-10 in the NEC, followed by Belle Lanpher's 8.8 per game. Lara Rohkohl leads the team with 7.2 rebounds per game and 1.2 blocks per game, both top-five marks in the NEC. Forever Toppin is third in the conference with 1.8 steals per game and the Blue Devils have four players who average at least one steal per game. As a team, Central Connecticut carries a minus-11.7 scoring margin, minus-2.8 rebounding margin and a plus-0.1 turnover margin.
 
All-Time vs. Central Connecticut
Saint Francis holds a 36-14 all-time advantage over Central Connecticut since the first meeting in 1998. The Blue Devils won the first matchup 70-67 before the Red Flash went on a 13-game winning streak between 1998-05. Most recently, Central Connecticut won the last meeting 58-55 to snap a six-game Saint Francis winning streak. In the last meeting, Cantral Connecticut's Lanpher scored a game-high 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting with three three-point shots. In the game, Miller produced a career-high 17 points with seven converted field goals.
 
Around the NEC
In the second day of NEC action, St. Francis Brooklyn and Wagner moved to 2-0 in conference play with a 65-59 defeat of Central Connecticut and 63-61 win over Merrimack, respectively. Sacred Heart won its conference opener against LIU 63-53, while Saint Francis and Stonehill both moved to 1-1 with the Red Flash 56-52 win. On Sunday afternoon, Saint Francis visits Central Connecticut, Sacred Heart visits Stonehill, LIU visits Wagner and Fairleigh Dickinson visits Merrimack.
