LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis University football is set to host Wagner on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. televised on CBS Sports Network. The game marks the first-ever nationally televised linear football game in Northeast Conference history.
Offense
Coming off a season-high seven catches for 87 yards at Stonehill,
Dawson Snyder is fourth in the NEC with 286 receiving yards and seventh with 16 receptions. He eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards in his career against Stonehill and now sits at 1,051. Despite going 10-of-25 at Stonehill,
Cole Doyle remains atop the NEC with a 57.3 completion percentage and 171.4 passing yards per game.
Jordan Jackson,
Damon Horton and Doyle lead the rushing attack with 168, 167 and 152 yards, respectively.
QuaSean Holmes still leads the team with two rushing touchdowns despite missing two games. The Red Flash are third in the conference with 317.2 average total yards of offense.
Defense
Carter Glassmyer earned the first NEC Defensive Player of the Week selection for Saint Francis after his 13 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack at Stonehill. He has 14.5 total tackles per game through the first two conference games, which leads the conference, and his 1.75 tackles for loss per game is third. Overall, Glassmyer is tied for third in the NEC with 41 total tackles this season.
Blye Hill and
Pierre Royster both recorded their first collegiate interceptions against Stonehill, while
Mercury Swaim earned his second forced fumble and first fumble recovery.
Special Teams
Aidan Cirulli holds a punting average of 38.8 yards this season, is tied for fourth in the NEC with six punts inside the 20 and has three punts of at least 50 yards.
Mac Plummer is 4-for-5 on field goal attempts this season with a long of 36 yards against Sacred Heart. As a team, Saint Francis is second in the NEC with 13.4 average punt return yards on seven attempts.
Last Time Out
Saint Francis earned its first victory of the season 15-10 over Stonehill. The Red Flash held a 3-0 lead at halftime, which was the first time Saint Francis shutout an opponent in a half this season. Stonehill took a 7-3 lead in the third quarter on a 15-yard passing touchdown. Saint Francis responded in the fourth quarter with a 17-yard passing touchdown to Snyder and regained a 9-7 lead after the extra point was no good. Stonehill kicker Perry Shelbred converted a 51-yard attempt with 3:38 remaining in the game for a 10-9 lead. Saint Francis produced an 11-play, 75-yard drive capped off by a
Deondre Scott touchdown with 19 seconds remaining to clinch its five-point victory. The game was Saint Francis' first victory when trailing heading into the fourth quarter since Aug. 31, 2019 at Lehigh.
Scouting Wagner
The Seahawks enter their bye weekend atop the NEC standings with a 2-0 conference record after a 17-10 win over Sacred Heart and 30-27 win over Merrimack. Wagner is 2-3 overall with losses to Rutgers, Navy and Fordham. Quarterback Steven Krajewski leads the Seahawks with a 52.8 completion percentage, 638 passing yards, five touchdowns and has thrown two interceptions. He has added 32 rushes for 60 yards and has the only two rushing touchdowns of the season for Wagner. Zachary Palmer-Smith leads with 303 rushing yards, while Trevor Short leads with 198 receiving yards and two touchdowns. John Gioia is third in the NEC with 42 total tackles, while Justin Reilly ranks seventh with 40. Gioia also leads the program with 4.5 tackles for loss and has one interception. Junior Wily leads the team with two interceptions and has 38 total tackles. Kicker Ryan Liszner is 4-for-5 on field goal attempts this season with a long of 43 yards.
All-Time vs. Wagner
Wagner holds a 23-8 all-time advantage over the Red Flash since the first meeting in 1992. Saint Francis won the first game 21-18 before a 14-game losing streak from 1992-2005. Wagner won 21 of the first 24 games played between 1992-2014. Since then, the Red Flash own a 5-2 record over the Seahawks and are on a three-game winning streak.
Around the NEC
LIU defeated Sacred Heart 23-13 and improved to 1-1 in conference play, while the Pioneers dropped to 1-3. Merrimack earned a 45-34 victory over Stonehill, which improved the Warriors to 2-1 and dropped the Skyhawks to 1-2. In non-conference action, Central Connecticut defeated Delaware State 51-44 and Duquesne fell to Delaware 43-17.
Week Seven in the NEC
Saint Francis and Wagner kickoff week seven action on CBS Sports Network on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. Central Connecticut visits Duquesne on Saturday, Oct. 14 for the only other NEC matchup of the week. Sacred Heart visits Yale and LIU visits Maine in non-conference action.
