WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
The Saint Francis Bowling team went 3-2 on the second day of Youngstown State's MOTIV Penguin Classic, highlighted by wins over No. 3 Nebraska and No. 19 Central Missouri.
The Red Flash didn't win any of their five Baker matches on Friday but were able to turn the page by opening Saturday with three consecutive wins over Nebraska, Wright State, and Central Missouri. They pulled themselves out of last place as they hope to carry the winning momentum into Sunday.
TURKEYS LEAD TO WINS
The win over Central Missouri saw the Red Flash pull ahead of the Jennies in the final five frames. Sophomores
Mackenzie Keane and
Ayanna Carroll, and seniors
Marissa Metcalfe and
Kassidy Landwehr bowled at least three consecutive strikes in the back half of the traditional match, helping build the 48-point gap between the Jennies and Red Flash.Â
THE START OF SOMETHING
Although the performance could be seen as hit-and-miss when looking at the pinfall total, many bowlers who logged significant playing time flashed potential of what could come this season. While Keane and Landwehr continued strong performances from Friday, Carroll was able to make the most of her opportunities in the spotlight.
The sophomore from the DC area put up a team-leading seven strikes against Central Missouri, recording a team-high 233 pinfall in the win over the Jennies. Carroll bowled in the leadoff role in multiple matches on Saturday.
