Red Flash Finish Strong on Final Day of Destination Orlando Tournament

The Saint Francis bowling team salvaged the last match of the bracket round on the way to a six-win tournament this weekend at the AMF Sky Lanes in Orlando, Florida.

Fourth-year coach Ashley Bingham and the Red Flash (10-16) found the hot rotation at times throughout the weekend, evident in the way the bowlers were able to catch fire and make some noise against their competition throughout the three-day tournament.

HUNG WITH THE BEST
The stacked tournament saw the Red Flash stay competitive through the first two days, coming out of Saturday with a 5-5 record. They dropped the first two pairs of best-of-seven matches before regaining their footing to win the last match and finish the Central Florida tournament with a 6-7 record and a 12,132 pinfall to place 15th overall.

TOURNEY HIGHLIGHTS
The Red Flash started Friday with two big wins, the latter being a 1000-pin performance against Monmouth. Freshman Hayden Bennett and senior Marissa Metcalfe converted in all ten frames, and senior Emma Meade led the way with eight strikes in the win.
Saint Francis opened the second day with a win over Texas Southern behind a 258 game from sophomore Mackenzie Keane, while their win over Emmanuel on saw the Flash knock down 30 combined strikes, led by nine from senior Kassidy Landwehr in her 256-pin performance.
Likely the weekend's biggest moment came in the second game in best-of-seven baker play on Sunday against Florida A&M. Coach Bingham rode a rotation of Metcalfe, Meade and Keane as well as senior Samantha Timm and sophomore Ayanna Carroll to eight opening strikes, just two frames shy of a baker 300 game. They defeated the Rattlers in game two 244-176 on their way to a 4-0 sweep to finish the weekend.

NEW COMPETITION
While the Red Flash saw some regular opponents during Friday's baker play, some new competition was featured on the Saturday and Sunday schedules for Saint Francis. Emmanuel University, a program that has been around for nearly a decade, competed against the Red Flash for the first time, falling to Saint Francis on Saturday by nearly 70 pins in a traditional match.
The Red Flash defeated Texas Southern and Florida A&M, both teams they hadn't faced since Coach Bingham was a freshman bowler for Saint Francis.

MEADE'S MOMENT
Senior Emma Meade had a career weekend for the Red Flash, including hitting strikes on nearly 60 percent of her attempts in baker competition. Meade was the team's top performer in the win over No. 22 Tulane, and the consistency in Sunday's performance was similar to what she showed on the first day of the tournament.

SUNDAY'S RESULTS
Monmouth 4, Saint Francis 1
Texas Southern 4, Saint Francis 2
Saint Francis 4, Florida A&M 0
