BUFFALO, N.Y. – Saint Francis University women's basketball dropped its first road game of the 2023-24 season 78-62 at Canisius.

TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME
The Golden Griffins started the game with a 17-5 lead in the first quarter before the Red Flash cut it to 19-12 at the end of the first. Canisius jumped ahead 23-12 before a 7-0 run put Saint Francis behind four points, 23-19. Canisius increased its lead throughout the remaining of the half and led 37-28.
In the third quarter, Saint Francis cut the deficit to 37-31 before Canisius increased its lead to 18 points, 62-44, at the end of the frame. The Golden Griffins led by as many as 22 points in the fourth quarter before clinching their 16-point victory.
FLASH NUGGETS
Maxwell has opened the season averaging 15.5 points per game and is 7-of-10 on three-point field goal attempts.
Carruthers is averaging 7.5 points per game and
Yanessa Boyd is averaging 7.0 to begin their respective collegiate careers.
Marissa Shelton scored a career-high eight points and went 3-of-4 from the field and 2-for-3 from three-point territory.
Saint Francis shot 9-of-17 (52.9-percent) from three-point territory and is 15-of-38 (39.5-percent) this season.
