Rosenberger Scores Career-High 19 Points; Saint Francis MBB Has Strong Second Half in Loss At Penn State

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Saint Francis had a strong second half against Big 10 opponent Penn State in an 83-53 loss in non-conference men's basketball action on Tuesday.
>> Bobby Rosenberger III (Quakertown, Pa.) paced the Red Flash with a career-high 19 points.
>> The freshman went 7-for-10 from the field, 3 of 5 from behind the arc and 2 of 2 from the charity stripe. Rosenberger became the first freshman this season to reach double figures and added a career-best eight rebounds. The 19 points were the most scored by a Red Flash player in the first four games this season.
>> Head coach Rob Krimmel, who grew up in State College with both of his parents working at Penn State, served as the head coach for the Red Flash for the second time against the Nittany Lions. The first time was his first-ever game as the head coach of Saint Francis in 2012-13.
>> The Loretto program will hold an open practice at the Jaffa Shrine Center in Altoona on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. The Jaffa is the former home of Red Flash men's basketball with Golden Era greats Maurice Stokes, Norm Van Lier and Kevin Porter having played their illustrious career in the facility.

TURNING POINT OF THE GAME

Penn State jumped out to a 7-0 lead before Gestin Liberis (Havertown, Pa.) got the Red Flash on the scoreboard. The Nittany Lions continued its offensive outburst while limiting Saint Francis' scoring chances en route to a 46-18 lead. The Frankies put up a fight in the second half and battled tough with its second Power 6 opponent in the first four games.

FLASH QUOTES

"I told our group as we were coming out of the locker room just a few minutes ago, I'm proud of them. One of the youngest teams in the country, probably in arguably one of the toughest schedules in the country and we started four games on the road against some really good competition." – head coach Rob Krimmel on the tough schedule

"Bobby Rosenberger gave us a huge lift. Young man that actually had struggled through the first three games and he was really hard on himself. that hard play in that demonstration of how he can uplift the team, one player can impact the flow of the game and I thought he did a really good job coming out in the second half." – Krimmel on Rosenberger's play against Penn State

"As someone who grew up in State College, I'm going to walk out with my head high, and know that we've got some good basketball in front of us. It's a special moment any time you come back to your hometown. I wish I could have played here in my four years as a player, but we weren't able to. It's special to be able to come back as a coach not once but twice." – Krimmel on coming back as a coach to his hometown

FLASH MOMENTS
Saint Francis started the second half with a 11-5 run. Rosenberger started the spurt with a layup and before Rosenberger and Liberis had back-to-back baskets in the paint after a Penn State score. After Penn State hit a 3-ball, Cam Gregory (Accokeek, Md.) nailed one of his own and Wisler Sanon II (Sicklerville, N.J.) scored a fast-break layup to cap the run.

The Red Flash outscored Penn State in the second half 19-17 before the Nittany Lions went on 12-0 run. Penn State outscored the Frankies by just a 37-35 margin in the second half. The two teams also finished identical on the boards with 16 offensive, 24 defensive and 40 rebounds total.

FLASH NUGGETS
Sanon tallied four points, a team and career-high six rebounds and four assists. Eli Wilborn (Middletown, Conn.) added six points and six rebounds. The six rebounds were a career best after hauling in five boards at Santa Clara on Saturday.

Aaron Humphrey, Jr. (Indianapolis, Ind.) became the latest player to notch his first collegiate points when he scored with 8:43 left in the first half. Humphrey finished with a career three points.

Despite being separated by just 61 miles this was only the 13th meeting in the all-time series and the sixth meeting since the turn of the century.

Saint Francis began the season against four teams that won over 20 games each, two NCAA Tournament appearances and an NIT appearance last season with its four-game road trip at UCLA, San Francisco, Santa Clara and Penn State. The four-game road trip to start the season was the longest since the 2003-04 season.

NEXT TIME OUT
Saint Francis returns to action with its home opener against Pitt Greensburg on Monday. Game time is 7 p.m. The game starts a three-game homestand for the Red Flash over the Thanksgiving holiday.
