The Red Flash bowling team will travel to compete in the Hawk Classic this weekend, co-hosted by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Monmouth University at the Bowl America Lanes in Woodbridge, Va., on November 17-19.
LAST TIME OUT
The Red Flash (15-18, 5-2 NEC) will compete on four days rest after exceeding expectations at the Northeast Conference regular season tournament this past weekend. The Red Flash went 5-2 against the field of NEC competition, bowling to a third-place finish in North Brunswick, N.J. Seniors
Kassidy Landwehr and
Samantha Timm and sophomore
Mackenzie Keane picked up NEC Prime Performer honors for their fourth, fifth and seventh place finishes, respectively.
BACK ONCE AGAIN
The Red Flash return to the Hawk Classic for the second consecutive year, a tournament they have attended since 2013. They hope to bowl better than their 15th-place finish a season ago, a tall task given the challenging opponents on the tournament's schedule. They will see similar opponents as last year's tournament, such as No. 1 Vanderbilt, No. 6 Youngstown State, No. 23 Delaware State and others. The Hawk Classic is their third consecutive non-conference tournament where more than half of the competing programs are ranked in the National Tenpin Coaches Association Poll.
TIME TO BACK IT UP
With last weekend's performance at the first NEC tournament, people will keep a close eye on the Red Flash this weekend. While this could be a turning point for the Frankies' season, programs will want to make sure last weekend wasn't a fluke. Four conference opponents will join the Red Flash in Woodbridge: Duquesne, Sacred Heart, Fairleigh Dickinson and Merrimack. The Frankies' performance this weekend will likely show if their outing in New Jersey was the real deal.
