Women’s Basketball Visits Loyola Maryland on Thanksgiving Eve

Saint Francis University women's basketball is set for a Thanksgiving Eve matchup at Loyola Maryland on Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 2 p.m.
 
Saint Francis Quick Hits
Kendall Carruthers had her first breakout performance with 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting at Rutgers. She raised her season average to 9.8 points per game and leads the team with a 45.2 field goal percentage. Yanessa Boyd had her first double-digit scoring effort with 12 points at Rutgers and raised her total to 8.8 points per game. Destini Ward's five steals at Rutgers were the most since Ace Harrison produced eight on March 4, 2018 (152 games). Marina Artero and Harris Robinson lead Saint Francis with 5.5 rebounds per game and have each led in a game twice.
 
Last Time Out
Saint Francis fell to its first Power Five opponent of the season, Rutgers, 80-51. The Red Flash led 5-2 early before Rutgers produced a 22-2 run in the first quarter and led 24-7. Rutgers jumped out to a 33-13 lead midway through the second quarter before Saint Francis ended the half on a 9-2 run and cut the deficit to 35-22. The Scarlet Knights pulled away in the third quarter and led by as many as 30 points in the fourth before clinching the victory. Despite the loss, the game marked Saint Francis first time having less turnover than an opponent this season with a 21-17 margin.
 
Scouting Loyola Maryland
The Greyhounds hold a 2-1 record to begin the season with a 77-73 win over Binghamton, 49-48 win over UMBC and 74-39 loss to West Virginia. Lex Therien leads the team with 19.7 points, 9.7 points and 2.0 steals per game this season. She has a double-double in two of the three games. Therien is a two-time Second Team All-Conference and Patriot League Rookie of the Year selection through her first two seasons. Kelly Ratigan follows Therien with 7.7 points per game and Ava Therien adds 6.3. Loyola Maryland is shooting 42.4-percent from the field, but just 18.2-percent from three-point territory.
 
All-Time vs. Loyola Maryland
Loyola Maryland holds a 7-2 all-time advantage over Saint Francis with a perfect 6-0 record at home. The programs first met in 1984, an 84-67 win for Loyola Maryland, and last met in 2006, an 81-64 win for the Greyhounds. Saint Francis won its two games in 1986 and 1988.
 
Around the NEC
Prior to games played on Nov. 21, Sacred Heart and Le Moyne were the only two Northeast Conference teams with a victory this season. Le Moyne earned its first victory as a Division I program with a 63-61 overtime victory over UMass Lowell. Sacred Heart has three victories this season over Hofstra, Monmouth and Morgan State. Five teams are in action the two days prior to Thanksgiving, while Sacred Heart begins a tournament in Puerto Rico on Thanksgiving.
