Women’s Basketball Gears Up to Face Lafayette

LORETTO, Pa. –
Saint Francis University women's basketball returns from a short Thanksgiving break to face Lafayette at home on Sunday, Nov. 26 at 2 p.m.
 
Saint Francis Quick Hits
Kendall Carruthers' 11.0 points per game ranks top-10 in the Northeast Conference. She has back-to-back games with 19 and 16 points, which are two of the top three scoring efforts by a Red Flash player this season. Fellow freshman Yanessa Boyd ranks second amongst active players with 9.4 points per game and has scored at least eight points in four of the five games. Marina Artero paces the Red Flash with 5.8 rebounds per game, which is fifth in the NEC. Five different Saint Francis players are averaging at least one steal per game. Saint Francis currently holds a conference-high 31.6 three-point percentage and has scored more three's than its opponent in three of the five games.
 
Last Time Out
Saint Francis dropped a Thanksgiving Eve matchup at Loyola Maryland 53-45. The game was even at 10 through the first quarter before an 8-2 Red Flash run opened an 18-12 second-quarter lead. The Greyhounds ended the half on a 7-0 run and held a 19-18 lead at the half. In the third, Loyola Maryland opened on a 13-2 run and led 32-20. With a 36-27 lead headed to the fourth, Loyola led by at least six points the entire way before clinching its victory. The 53 points allowed were the lowest by the Red Flash this season.
 
Scouting Lafayette
The Leopards enter Sunday's game with a 2-3 record after victories 54-51 over LIU and 83-60 over NJIT. Two of Lafayette's three losses were by eight points. Makayla Andrews and Abby Antognoli lead the scoring with 13.8 and 13.0 points per game, respectively. Kayla Drummond paces the team with 6.8 rebounds per game, followed by Andrews' 5.8. Antognoli leads the team with 4.6 assists and 1.8 steals per game. Lafayette was selected eighth out of 10 teams in the Patriot League Preseason Poll.

Lafayette and Saint Francis meet in 2023 for the first time in series history. Lafayette Marks Saint Francis' second, and final, Patriot opponent of the 2023-24 season, while Saint Francis is Lafayette's second and final NEC opponent.
 
Around the NEC
Sacred Heart remains atop the NEC with a 4-2 record, which is more wins thank every other conference team combined as of Nov. 24. Central Connecticut, Merrimack and Le Moyne each have one victory this season. Six of the nine NEC teams are in action over the weekend.
