SELECT GAME NOTES VS. ROBERT MORRISÂ (FULLÂ GAME NOTES PDF)
FRANKIES TIDBITS IN A FLASH
• In
Home Alone 2, Kate McCallister says "Its becoming sort of a McCallister family travel tradition."
• Saint Francis playing Robert Morris as its final game before Christmas has become a Red Flash family tradition with the third-straight year the two teams will play right before Christmas and the only three meetings since the Colonials left the Northeast Conference for the Horizon League.
• "Funnily enough, we... never lose our luggage," Peter McAllister quips after Kate's statement.
• The Frankies are looking to end a four-game losing streak to Robert Morris.
• Prior to the Colonials four-game streak, Saint Francis had won 10 of the last 11 meetings in the series including nine in a row from 2016-20.
• This will be the 92nd meeting in the all-time series between the two teams dating back to the 1977-78 season, but just the eighth non-conference regular season meeting between the two teams.
• In non-conference regular season games, Saint Francis holds 4-3 edge in the series. The Red Flash won four of the first five meetings in the matchup before both teams joined the ECAC Metro (now known as the NEC).
• The Colonials hold a 53-38 advantage in the all-time series, including a 24-21 edge at DeGol Arena.
• Robert Morris won the last meeting in Loretto 75-67 in 2021-22, but the Frankies had been on a six-game winning streak at home before that loss.
• This the second consecutive tilt against a former NEC opponent after the Red Flash hosted Mount St. Mary's on Friday.
• Those two schools were the closest in proximity to the Loretto program before Robert Morris left for the Horizon League in 2021-22 and the Mount left for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference last season.
• Both schools also played the Red Flash in two of the three NEC Championship Games under head coach
Rob Krimmel.
• For the second-straight season, the squad will play four fellow Keystone state teams this season. Saint Francis will host Pitt Greensburg (W, 77-63) and Robert Morris, while also traveling to Penn State (L, 53-84) and Lehigh (W, 62-61).
• Krimmel is 24-23 against the state of Pennsylvania, including 2-1 this season. The Red Flash has won two straight against its Keystone brethren thanks to a win at home against Pitt Greensburg and a road win at Lehigh.
• Saint Francis has played its most games against teams from the western part of the state in program history. The Red Flash have tangled with Robert Morris the most in the state with 91 meetings. Duquesne has been on the squad 75 times, Saint Vincent 65 times, Westminster 43 times, Geneva 39 times and Pittsburgh 30 times.
• With St. Francis Brooklyn halting athletics at the end of 2022-23, Robert Morris head coach
Andrew Toole and
Dr. Brett Reed at Lehigh are the only two coaches on the schedule that were head coaches when Krimmel took over as the head coach at Saint Francis. The Red Flash did not play either Robert Morris or Lehigh during the COVID season of 2020-21.
• Sacred Heart's
Anthony Latina took over one year after Krimmel became the head coach so Krimmel has faced Latina, Reed and Toole in the same amount of seasons (11).
• Coming into the season, Krimmel has faced Toole and Latina 20 times each on the sideline.
• Freshman
Aaron "Ace" Talbert  was named the NEC Rookie of the Week for the week of December 11-17 to become the third different Saint Francis player to earn the distinction this season, joining
Bobby Rosenberger III and
Eli Wilborn.
• Three different players earning the recognition is a Red Flash record and is the second most in NEC history. Mount St. Mary's had five players earn the honor in 2018-19, while the Frankies are one of seven teams to have three different freshmen garner the honor in the same season.
• Saint Francis has 12 NEC Rookie of the Week honors during the last two season, which is the most in the league. Since the start of the 2022-23 season, the Red Flash have won 12 of the 23 NEC Rookie of the Week honors. Merrimack is second with five top rookie selections, while LIU (3), Wagner (2) and FDU (1) have received honors over the last two seasons.
• After the Christmas holiday, the Red Flash will wrap up non-conference play with the first-ever meeting with Campbell on December 30.Â
AN SFU WIN WOULD
• Be the fifth win in the last eight games
• End a four-game losing streak against Robert Morris
• Be the team's first win against the Horizon League since defeating Youngstown State 60-59 at home in 2011-12
• Be the team's first non-conference regular season win against the Colonials since an 85-70 win in 1980-81
• Give the Frankies a 3-1 record against the Keystone State
• Improve the home record to 3-2
• Be the seventh win in the last eight meetings against Robert Morris in Loretto
• Notch five non-conference wins for the fourth time under head coach
Rob Krimmel, joining the 2014-15 (6-4), 2017-18 (5-5) and 2019-20 (7-3) teams
LAST TIME OUT
• Saint Francis trimmed a 25-point deficit to six points, but fell to Mount St. Mary's 72-65 on Friday.
• Sophomore
Cam Gregory paced the Red Flash with 20 points, while freshman
Aaron "Ace" Talbert added 16 points and fellow freshman
Carlos Lopez, Jr. chipped in 12 points.
• The Red Flash scored 50 points in the second half to post 50 points in a half for the second time this season.Â
ABOUT THE COLONIALS
• Robert Morris comes into the game 3-8 after defeating St. Vincent 95-46 on Sunday.
• Senior
Josh Corbin and graduate student
Markeese Hastings paced the Colonials with 16 points and nine rebounds each, while sophomore
TJ Wainwright (14 points), sophomore
Stephaun Walker (13 points, 10 rebounds) and freshman
Alvaro Folguerira (11 points, 15 rebounds) also registered double figures.
• Hastings leads five players averaging double figures with 15.1 points per game and a team-best 8.6 rebounds per game. Junior
Justice Williams (13.4 ppg.), Corbin (12.6 ppg.), Wainwright (11.3 ppg.) and Walker (10.2 ppg.) are also averaging double figures in points.
• Saint Francis Athletics Hall of Famer and Altoona, Pa., native,
Mike Iuzzolino is in his eighth season as associate head coach on head coach
Andrew Toole's staff. Iuzzolino played for the Red Flash from 1989-91 and left with 1,346 career points, including a program record 772 points in 1990-91 to lead the team to its only NEC Tournament title and NCAA Division I Tournament appearance. Saint Francis was 41-19 in his two seasons including 29-2 at DeGol Arena.
• In the Robert Morris win against St. Vincent, Iuzzolino's son, also named Mike, had 15 points for Bearcats.
TRENDING UP
• Sophomore
Cam Gregory averaged 19.7 points per game in the three games against the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, including his only two career 20-point performances. The sophomore is averaging 10.5 points per game in the other eight games this season.
• Last year, Gregory posted three of his four 10+ point games on the road and has three of his four double-figure performances on the road in 2023-24. However, Gregory has posted 10+ points in three of his four home games this season, including his three best scoring outputs. He is averaging 17.0 points per game at DeGol Arena after posting three games with at least 19 points in Loretto this season.
• Gregory has scored double figures in three-straight games for the second time in his career. He also turned the trick last year in mid-February and now looks for his first span of four-straight 10+ point games.
• Freshman
Aaron "Ace" Talbert registered his fourth 10+ point game in his last six games with three of the four coming at home. Similar to Gregory, Talbert has posted his three best scoring outputs at DeGol Arena and is averaging 14.8 points per game in Loretto. The 16 points against Mount St. Mary's on Friday was the second-most points he has scored.
• Freshman
Carlos Lopez, Jr. has posted 12 points in two of his last three games, and reached double figures for the first time at home on Friday against the Mount. The freshman is averaging 10.0 points per game in his last three tilts. The freshman has scored eight points or more four times this season and he has gone 14 of 18 from the free throw line in those contests. In the other seven games, Lopez has not scored more than six points and only has shot two free throws.
• Freshman
Eli Wilborn has 18 blocks in his last nine games and has three rejections in each of his last three contests. Josh Nebo is the last player to have three-straight games with three blocks in the 2016-17 season. Nebo is also the last player with at least three shots turned away in four-consecutive games.
• Wilborn notched his first career 10+ point game against Pitt Greensburg on November 20 and has posted double figures in five of last seven tilts. The freshman is averaging 9.1 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game in that stretch. The only two times he did not reach double figures were the two games he was in foul trouble to start the game.
