WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Saint Francis and Robert Morris had some great battles when the two schools were in the Northeast Conference (NEC) and despite the fact that neither team had players that were in the last meaningful NEC battle, this one was a classic game between the two Keystone state teams.
>> Justice Williams hit a fade away three-pointer with
Eli Wilborn (Middletown, Conn.) in his face in the corner with two seconds left to dash the hearts of Loretto and give the Colonials a 75-73 come-from-behind win in non-conference men's basketball action on Wednesday.
Bobby Rosenberger III (Quakertown, Pa.) had a three-quarters court heave that went off the backboard at the buzzer.
>>
Cam Gregory (Accokeek, Md.) paced the Red Flash with 16 points, six assists, four rebounds, three steals and a block.
>> Wilborn added a career-high 15 points along with eight rebounds, while Rosenberger posted 13 points and matched a career-high eight rebounds.
>>
Carlos Lopez, Jr. (Egg Harbor, N.J.) also had a career-high 13 points, while
Aaron "Ace" Talbert (Wyandanch, N.Y.) added 12 points and five rebounds.
TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
Lopez gave the Frankies a 60-42 lead with 12:02 left in the game before Robert Morris closed the game on a 33-13 run, including a 15-5 run over the final three minutes after a Rosenberger trey with 2:52 left to secure the two-point win and the fifth-straight win in the series.
Â
After the Colonials grabbed a 72-69 lead, Gregory scored in the lane with 31 seconds left to cut the margin to one-point. After a Robert Morris turnover, Gregory scored in the lane again with 17.1 seconds left. Saint Francis played good defense, but there was no justice for the Red Flash in the final seconds after Williams nailed the 3-ball.
FLASH QUOTES
"It's certainly a tough way to end. In the last possession, we did exactly what we needed to do. It was a contested shot and a kid hit a tough three to win a game. I told this group in the locker room that it was really the first experience playing with the lead. I thought the second half offensively, the ball stuck too much where in the first half we were getting the thing side to side and able to get downhill. I just think Robert Morris got too many opportunities and second chance points. The ability to learn to put teams away is something that this group will have to continue to build on. The opportunity to teach will come tomorrow but it'll stay with us. We will learn from it and we will grow and be better."
– head coach Rob Krimmel on the game
"Because as a parent and as a coach, there's certain things that you just have to go through. You have to deal with that pain that you can't protect them as basketball players or as people. They have to learn some of those things and I know that this group will continue to build on that. It's just it's one of those painful learning moments."
– Krimmel on the tough loss
"It's the same way I handle any other game. It's another game. It sucks that that happened to us. I felt like on the positive side we had a lot of good plays. We played a great game. Something that we could build on and learn from."
– Cam Gregory on the game
"I don't know how different is. I know we've all played millions of games basketball in our lives, and we've been in situations. Everything is always coming down to just being a basketball game."
– Bobby Rosenberger III on the end of the game
FLASH MOMENTS
Saint Francis has been a slow-starting team this season in the first half, but not on Wednesday. Holding a 14-13 lead in the first half, the Red Flash went on a 26-12 run to grab a 45-25 lead with 1:58 left in the opening frame. Lopez fueled this stretch with 10 points.
Â
After coming out of the locker room with a 10-point lead, the Red Flash opened the second half with a 20-12 spurt to take its largest lead at 60-42 with 11:53 on the clock. Wilborn sparked this run with eight points.
