Women’s Basketball Travels to Syracuse for School Day

LORETTO, Pa. –
Saint Francis University women's basketball is set to travel to Syracuse on Thursday, Dec. 21 for a 10:30 a.m. tip-off on the program's School Day.
 
Saint Francis Quick Hits
Kendall Carruthers continues to pace Saint Francis with 11.8 points per game and a 31.4 three-point field goal percentage. She has scored in double figures six of the last eight games. Yanessa Boyd is second on the team with 9.0 points per game on a team-high 38.0 field goal percentage. She is tied with Destini Ward for second on the team with five double-digit scoring efforts. Ward averages 8.6 points per game and a team-high 1.5 steals per game. On the boards, Julianna Gibson now leads the Red Flash with 4.8 rebounds per game, followed by Artero's 4.6 and Ward's 4.5.
 
Last Time Out
Saint Francis dropped a road matchup at Penn State, who received votes in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, 119-43. The Nittany Lions held a 25-10 advantage with under two minutes remaining in the first quarter before the Red Flash narrowly cut into the deficit 28-15 at the end of the frame. In the second, Penn State outscored Saint Francis 39-9 and opened a 67-24 lead at the half. The Nittany Lions outscored the Red Flash 22-12 in the third and 30-7 in the fourth quarter to clinch its win.
 
Scouting Syracuse
The Orange hold a 9-1 overall record and are set to conclude their non-conference schedule against the Red Flash. Syracuse received three votes in the most recent AP Poll, which placed the Orange 37th in the country. Syracuse is 6-0 at home and its only loss of the season was 83-81 to then-No. 20 Maryland. Four Orange players average double-digit points per game, led by Dyaisha Fair's 19.2 per game on 40.9-percent shooting from the field. Georgia Woolley averages 15.7 points per game and Alaina Rice adds 12.4. Alyssa Latham has 10.6 points per game and leads Suracuse with 8.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game.
 
All-Time vs. Syracuse
Syracuse holds a 2-0 advantage over Saint Francis with victories in 2010 and 2011. The Orange defeated the Red Flash 94-60 in the first meeting and took a victory in the second meeting 88-45.
 
Around the NEC
Central Connecticut defeated Colgate 69-54 and Le Moyne defeated Buffalo 66-61 for the most recent Northeast Conference program victories. Overall, Sacred Heart still leads the conference at 5-7, followed by Merrimack's 3-9 record. Central Connecticut, Fairleigh Dickinson, Le Moyne and Wagner each have two wins, while LIU and Saint Francis have one. Stonehill remains without a victory at 0-11.
