SELECT GAME NOTES VS. CAMPBELLÂ (FULLÂ GAME NOTES PDF)
FRANKIES TIDBITS IN A FLASH
• Saint Francis will battle Campbell for the first time in program history to wrap up non-conference play on Saturday.
• The Fighting Camels are the third team the Red Flash will face for the first time this season, joining Santa Clara and Pitt Greensburg.
• Saint Francis is 2-8 against the Coastal Athletic Association (formerly Colonial Athletic Association) including 1-2 at DeGol Arena. The Fighting Camels are in their first year in the circuit.
• It will be the first game against the CAA for the Red Flash since 2019-20 when the team played both Delaware and William & Mary. The Frankies lost at home to Delaware and defeated William & Mary 78-72 in the DC Holiday Hoop Fest Showcase on December 22, 2019 in the last game against the conference.
• The only win against CAA at home was a 69-57 decision against George Mason on December 2, 1997. Assistant coach
Eric Taylor paced the Red Flash in that win against the Patriots with 24 points and 10 rebounds, while head coach
Rob Krimmel had 12 points in the winning effort.
• It will be the first time the Frankies will not start NEC play before the New Year since 2019-20 when its final game before the New Year was the win against the Tribe in the nation's capital.
• Saint Francis is 2-8 in the final non-conference game before conference play starts under Krimmel and 1-4 at home.
• Robert Morris was the final non-conference game for the Red Flash the last two seasons, while NJIT has been the last opponent before league play three times under Krimmel.
• The tilt against William & Mary pops up as a note again with it being the last time the team won its final non-conference game, while the last time the team concluded non-conference with a win at home was an 84-70 win against Lehigh on December 21, 2017.
• The Frankies are 8-18 against the state of North Carolina, but hold a 6-4 record against the Tar Heel State at home. However, the last time a team from North Carolina came to Loretto was UNC Greensboro in the 1998-99 season when Saint Francis won the game 61-54 on November 28, 1998.
• East Carolina is the team from the Old North State that has been on the Red Flash schedule the most with eight games in the series, but the series stopped after the 1977-78 campaign.
• Saint Francis has played all four Atlantic Coast Conference schools and are 0-10 combined against Duke, NC State, North Carolina and Wake Forest with the Demon Deacons the most played of those teams with five meetings.
• Krimmel is 0-2 against the state with losses at Duke (2017-18) and North Carolina (2018-19).
• Krimmel and Campbell head coach
Kevin McGeehan have never faced each other on the sidelines, but have a connection that they both grew up in the state of Pennsylvania.
• Krimmel's State College roots are well known in these parts, but McGeehan grew up in Pennsylvania and played Division III basketball for George Petrie at Gettysburg. He was also a team captain for the Bullets in his senior season of 1994-95.
• Under McGeehan, the Fighting Camels have played to the east and to the west of Loretto, playing at Robert Morris in 2013-14 and at Penn State in 2021-22. Campbell is 2-3 under the coach in his home state, but 0-3 in games played in the Keystone state.
• There is one connection between the two teams on the sideline with assistant coach
Mike Sumney getting his first assistant coaching job in Loretto with the Red Flash from 2000-03 on then head coach Bobby Jones staff. Krimmel was also as an assistant coach on those teams. The final season Sumney was in Loretto the Red Flash had its best season under Jones with a 14-14 overall mark and 10-8 in NEC play.
• Saint Francis looks to finish non-conference play 5-8 to reach five non-conference wins for the fourth time under Krimmel, joining the 2014-15 (6-4), 2017-18 (5-5) and 2019-20 (7-3) teams.
• The Red Flash will open league play at Sacred Heart, the NEC preseason favorite with a Kid's Day Out Game at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 4 before heading to Wagner two days later.
• For the first time since the 2019-20 season, Saint Francis will open the NEC schedule on the road. It will be the fifth time under Krimmel the Red Flash will play its first conference game on the road.
AN SFU WIN WOULD
• Be the fifth win of the season
• Be the team's first win against the Coastal Athletic Conference since defeating William & Mary at the DC Hoop Fest on December 22, 2019
• Be the team's first win against the state of North Carolina in Loretto since defeating UNC Greensboro 61-54 on November 28, 1998
• Improve the Red Flash record against the Tar Heel state to 7-4 in Loretto
• Even the home record to 3-3
• Be head coach
Rob Krimmel's first win against the state of North Carolina
• Notch five non-conference wins for the fourth time under Krimmel, joining the 2014-15 (6-4), 2017-18 (5-5) and 2019-20 (7-3) teams
LAST TIME OUT
• Robert Morris hit a well-defended 3-pointer with two seconds left to down Saint Francis 75-73 on December 20.
• Sophomore
Cam Gregory paced the Red Flash with 16 points and six assists.
• Freshmen
Carlos Lopez, Jr. (13 points),
Bobby Rosenberger III (13 points, eight rebounds),
Aaron "Ace" Talbert (12 points, five assists) and
Eli Wilborn (15 points, eight rebounds) combined for 53 of the team's 74 points.
• Lopez and Wilborn both established new career highs in points while Rosenberger (rebounds) and Talbert (assists) both matched personal bests in a category.
• The Colonials rallied from an 18-point margin to match the biggest comeback by an opponent under head coach
Rob Krimmel. Stony Brook on December 2, 2017 also came back from 18 points down to win the game.
• Saint Francis has now been on both ends of biggest comebacks under Krimmel this season after the team rallied from 20-points down to defeat American, which ironically happened five years to the day after the Stony Brook game. The rally against the Eagles was the second-best comeback in the last 12 years.
ABOUT THE FIGHTING CAMELS
• Campbell comes into the contest 6-6 after defeating Morgan State 83-76 on December 18 for its third-straight win. The team is 6-2 at home and 0-4 away from Buies Creek.
• Sophomore
Anthony Dell'Orso fueled the Fighting Camels with 21 points, while freshman
Colby Duggan (13 points), graduate student
Alex Kotov (12 points) and senior
Tasos Cook (10 points) also found double figures.
• Dell'Orso is the only player averaging double figures and powers the team in both scoring (16.2 ppg.) and rebounds (6.1). Senior
Laurynas Vaistaras is the team's second leading scorer with 9.4 points per game and leads the team with 32 assists.
TRENDING UP
• For the first time in his career, sophomore
Cam Gregory has scored 10+ points in his last four games including 16+ points in each of his last three games. He is averaging 16.8 points per game in his last four games and 17.8 points per game in his last three tilts.
• In addition, during this current four-game stretch, Gregory has registered a career-high six rebounds against Iona on December 10 and his second-best assist output with six assists against Robert Morris in his last contest.
• Last year, Gregory posted three of his four 10+ point games on the road and has four of his eight double-figure performances on the road in 2023-24. However, Gregory has posted 10+ points in four of his five home games this season, including his four of his Top-5 best scoring outputs. He is averaging 16.8 points per game at DeGol Arena after posting three games with at least 19 points in Loretto this season.
• Freshman
Eli Wilborn has scored double figures in four of his last five and six of his last eight tilts. The only two times he did not reach double figures in this stretch was the two games he was saddled in foul trouble. He has posted three 10+ point games at home, including his Top-2 scoring performances with his career-high 15 points against Robert Morris on December 20 and 14 points against Franciscan on November 22. In addition, the freshman has hauled in at least five rebounds in four-straight contests and a team-best eight times this season. Wilborn is averaging 11.2 points and 7.3 rebounds per game in his last eight games.
• Freshman
Carlos Lopez, Jr. has posted at least 12 points in three of his last four games, and reached double figures in consecutive games for the first time in his career. After scoring a career-high 13 points against the Colonials, the freshman is averaging 10.8 points per game in his last four tilts. The freshman has scored eight points or more five times this season and he has gone 15 of 19 from the free throw line in those contests. The game against Robert Morris was the first time he scored over eight points and did not go to the line multiple times. In the other seven games, Lopez has not scored more than six points and only has shot two free throws.
• Freshman
Bobby Rosenberger III notched his first 10+ game at home with 13 points along with his matching his career high with eight rebounds. He also had three assists and two steals. The freshman has registered double figures in points four times with three of the four games coming in the state of Pennsylvania, while he has grabbed at least four boards six times and dished out three assists three times this season.
• Freshman
Aaron "Ace" Talbert registered his fifth 10+ point game in his last seven games with four of the five coming at home. Similar to Gregory, Talbert has posted his three best scoring outputs at DeGol Arena and is averaging 14.2 points per game in Loretto.Â
