Women’s Basketball Prepares for Stonehill at Home

LORETTO, Pa. –
 Saint Francis University women's basketball prepares to host Stonehill for the first time in program history on Thursday, Feb. 2 for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
 
Saint Francis Quick Hits
Sam Miller recorded the first double-double of her career with 10 points and 12 rebounds in last game's win over Central Connecticut. The 12 rebounds set a new career-high and she has led Saint Francis in rebounding four of the past five games. For the season, Miller is averaging 7.1 points and 4.5 rebounds per game with a 41.2 shooting percentage from the field. Adison Novosel set a new career-high with 12 points on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting from three-point territory. Filippa Goula is ranked fourth in the NEC with 2.8 assists per game and has a team-high eight double-digit scoring games this season. Aaliyah Moore continues to pace Saint Francis with 9.0 points and 9.1 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Saint Francis is second in the NEC with a 1.2 rebounding margin.
 
Last Time Out
Saint Francis evened its season series with Central Connecticut after a 63-57 victory. Central Connecticut held an early 5-4 lead before Saint Francis went on a 13-3 run in the final five minutes of the first quarter. With the Red Flash up 18-7 after one quarter, the Blue Devils went on a 9-0 run in the first four minutes of the second quarter and cut the deficit to 18-16. Saint Francis responded with a 16-4 run the remainder of the half and opened a 34-20 lead. In the third quarter, Saint Francis led by 18 points, 41-23, at the eight-minute mark. Central Connecticut was able to cut the deficit to 10 points, 47-37, at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Saint Francis held a 55-44 lead with under six minutes remaining before an 11-0 Central Connecticut run tied the game at 55 with two minutes remaining. Goula hit a three-point shot with 1:09 remaining and gave Saint Francis a 58-55 lead before its eventual 63-57 win.
 
Scouting Stonehill
Stonehill enters Thursday's game with a 2-6 conference and 6-15 overall record, with losses in six of the past seven games. Emily Bramanti paces the Skyhawks with 15.4 points per game, which ranks fifth in the NEC, and is second in the NEC amongst qualifying players with a 42.1 field goal percentage. She is a two-time NEC Player of the Week, with her last selection on Jan. 3. Sophie Glidden trails only Saint Francis' Moore with 7.4 rebounds per game and ranks sixth in the conference with 18 blocks.
 
All-Time vs. Stonehill
Saint Francis took a 56-52 win over Stonehill in the first meeting between the programs on Jan. 6. Goula led Saint Francis with 13 points and Moore recorded 13 rebounds, while Brimanti scored 17 points and Mia Kelly grabbed 12 rebounds. In the game. Saint Francis committed only five turnovers, which was the second-lowest single-game total in program history.
 
Around the NEC
Fairleigh Dickinson and Sacred Heart moved into a two-way tie for first place at 7-1 after a 74-53 win over Merrimack and 66-61 win over Stonehill, respectively. Wagner remains in second place at 6-1 after it had a bye. LIU earned its first conference victory of the season after a 69-54 win over St. Francis Brooklyn. The loss for Terriers came one game after they handed Wagner its first conference loss of the season on Jan. 26. Saint Francis pulled into a fifth-place tie with Merrimack after its 63-57 victory over now 2-6 Central Connecticut. On Feb. 2, LIU hosts Merrimack, Saint Francis hosts Stonehill, Central Connecticut hosts St. Francis Brooklyn and Wagner hosts Sacred Heart in a battle of one-loss teams.
