Women’s Basketball Prepares for Senior Day Against LIU

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis University women's basketball prepares to host its Senior Day against LIU on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. The Red Flash will honor one senior, Sam Miller, during this season's ceremony.
 
Saint Francis Quick Hits
Semaya Turner scored a career-high 19 points against St. Francis Brooklyn one game after she tied her career-high of 18 points against Merrimack. She is averaging 13.4 points per game in the last five and 8.9 during conference play. Destini Ward also set a career-high with 16 points last game and is averaging 12.2 points per game in the last five. She ranks second on the Red Flash with 7.5 points per game this season and third with 8.2 during conference play. Aaliyah Moore moved to 30th in the NCAA Division I with 9.6 rebounds per game this season and leads Saint Francis with 9.6 points per game this season. She has a double-double in back-to-back games and six total this season.
 
Last Time Out
Saint Francis earned its largest margin of victory this season with a 74-56 defeat of St. Francis Brooklyn. The Terriers took an early 10-4 lead with under five minutes remaining in the first quarter before Saint Francis scored the final eight points and took a 12-10 lead. The Red Flash continued its run with an 8-2 run to start the second quarter and took a 20-12 lead with seven minutes in the half. Saint Francis expanded its lead to a 12-point, 34-22 margin at halftime. Out of the half, the Terriers produced a 17-5 run in the first six-and-a-half minutes of the third quarter and tied the game 39-39. With the score 42-41 Saint Francis with three minutes remaining in the quarter, the Red Flash ended with an 11-0 run and opened a 53-41 lead. The Terriers cut the deficit to 10 points, 53-43, before Saint Francis produced a 14-4 run and held a 20-point lead with four minutes remaining. St. Francis Brooklyn narrowly cut into the deficit before Saint Francis clinched its victory.
 
Scouting LIU
The Sharks hold a 5-20 record this season and are tied for last place in the Northeast Conference with a 3-10 record. LIU has won two conference games in a row 78-68 over current fourth-place Wagner and 78-72 over Stonehill, who is also tied for last. Ashley Austin leads the Sharks with 12.1 points per game this season, which ranks eighth in the NEC. She is averaging 18.5 points per game in her last six and has three games with at least 20 points during the stretch. Emaia O'Brien has 13 points per game in her three games since returning to the lineup on Feb. 9 (she missed one month). Christina Bermejo is fourth in the NEC with 2.0 steals per game and seventh with 0.6 blocks per game.
 
All-Time vs. LIU
Saint Francis holds a 50-21 all-time advantage over LIU and 30-7 margin at home. The Red Flash have won four of the past five meeting, which included a 62-51 win this season. During the first meeting this season, Maria McConnell set a career-high with 12 points and was 4-for-4 from three-point territory. Austin, LIU's leading scorer, played only six minutes in the game while O'Brien, the second-leading scorer, did not play. Saint Francis is on a three-game winning streak at home against LIU.  
 
Around the NEC
In a battle of first and second place, Sacred Heart defeated Fairleigh Dickinson 70-67 and moved into a first-place tie at 10-2. Third-place St. Francis Brooklyn fell 74-56 to Saint Francis and moved to 8-5, while the Red Flash improved to 5-8. Wagner defeated Central Connecticut to snap a five-game losing streak and improve to 7-5, while the Blue Devils fell to 3-9. LIU defeated Stonehill 78-72 and moved both teams into a last-place tie at 3-10. On Saturday, Central Connecticut visits Stonehill, Sacred Heart visits Merrimack, Wagner visits Fairleigh Dickinson and LIU visits Saint Francis.

Saint Francis has its final road trip of the regular season starting Thursday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. against first-place Fairleigh Dickinson.
