LORETTO, Pa. – Redshirt juniors
Brad McCabe(Manasquan, N.J.) and
Luke Ruggery(Duncansville, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle), members of the Saint Francis University men's basketball team, have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) All-District II Academic Team.
"Luke and Brad have both done tremendous jobs during their time at Saint Francis balancing the demands of being a student-athlete," said head coach
Rob Krimmel. "Luke and Brad have helped raise the standard in our program for hard work, perseverance, and time management on the court and in the classroom. The recognition for their efforts as student-athletes is very deserving."
McCabe, a marketing major and boasts a 3.79 GPA, has appeared in 27 games with 18 starts and is averaging 6.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per game with 31 assists, 10 steals and eight blocks in 2022-23. He has registered double figures in points nine times including in four of his last six games. In that span he posted a season-high 14 points against Merrimack on February 4 and against LIU on February 18. The redshirt junior also had a season-high nine rebounds in the tilt against Merrimack.
Ruggery, who has a 4.0 GPA and is working on his MBA, has appeared in 27 games with six starts and is averaging 4.1 points and 1.3 rebounds per game with 16 assists and 14 steals this season. Ruggery has registered double figures four times this season, including a career-high 18 points against Saint Vincent on his birthday on December 8. The redshirt junior has already completed his undergraduate degree in finance and accounting with a 3.90 GPA.
To be eligible for the CSC (formerly CoSIDA) All-District team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher and compete in 50 percent of the team's competition. McCabe and Ruggery now move on to the national ballot for a chance to be a CSC Academic All-American.
The Red Flash have a decorated history with the CSC Academic All-America program. Mike Iuzzolino was a two-time Academic All-America honoree in 1990 and 1991, including the Academic All-American of the Year in 1991. Krimmel was also a two-time All-America selection in 1999 and 2000.
Saint Francis returns to action on Thursday at home against FDU. Game time is 7 p.m. and will be aired on ESPN 3 and SNY.
