Women’s Basketball Heads Back on the Road to Sacred Heart

 Saint Francis University women's basketball heads back on the road for a matchup at Sacred Heart on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m.
 
Saint Francis Quick Hits
Aaliyah Moore earned her fifth Northeast Conference Prime Performer selection of the season on Feb. 6 in a week that featured her fourth double-double of the season. She paces Saint Francis with 9.5 points per game, 10.6 during conference play, and leads the NEC with 9.0 rebounds per game. In the last game, Destini Ward recorded the first double-double of her career and tied her career-high with 15 points and set a new mark with 12 rebounds. Semaya Turner scored a career-high 18 points against Stonehill and grabbed a career-high eight rebounds against Merrimack. Ward and Turner average 7.5 and 7.4 points per game, respectively, through the first 10 conference games. Filippa Goula scored 15 points last game, her most with Saint Francis and leads the team with nine double-digit scoring efforts this season. As a team, Saint Francis remains second in the NEC with a 2.1 rebounding margin.
 
Last Time Out
Saint Francis dropped the last of its four-game home stand 67-65 against Merrimack. The Warriors held a 7-5 lead midway through the first quarter before a 13-3 run saw the Warriors lead 20-8 with 2:30 remaining in the quarter. Saint Francis went on a 24-1 run across nine and a half minutes of game time and opened a 32-21 lead with three minutes remaining in the first half. Merrimack responded with a 9-2 run, but Saint Francis took 34-30 lead into the half. Merrimack began the third quarter on a 17-4 run and took a 47-38 lead with 3:35 remaining in the third quarter before they took a 53-43 lead after the third. In the fourth quarter, Saint Francis chipped away at the lead and trailed by one point, 66-65, with 1:12 remaining. In a two-point game, 67-65, in the final 15 seconds, Saint Francis possessed the ball but could not tie the game.
 
Scouting Sacred Heart
The Pioneers enter Thursday's game with an 8-2 conference and 11-11 overall record this season. Their 8-2 mark ranks second in the NEC, behind only 8-1 Fairleigh Dickinson. Sacred Heart dropped its most recent game 79-64 to Central Connecticut. The Pioneers are led by freshman Ny'Ceara Pryor, who leads the NEC with 18 points per game, 4.2 steals per game, 45.0 field goal percentage, ranks second with 4.0 assists per game and seventh with 6.4 rebounds per game. Her steals per game leads the NCAA Division I, with second-ranked Alasia Smith of Gardner-Webb at 3.9. Pryor was named the first Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Watch List in conference history on Jan. 25. Sajada Bonner ranks second on the Pioneers with 11.3 points per game, while Kelsey Wood is second in rebounds per game with 5.4.
 
All-Time vs. Sacred Heart
Sacred Heart owns a 27-21 all-time advantage over Saint Francis since the first meeting in 2000. The Pioneers have a 16-7 overall record at home over the Red Flash, but Saint Francis has won the last three meetings on the road. In this year's matchup, played on Jan. 16, Sacred Heart took a 73-60 win at DeGol Arena. Sam Miller set what stills remains her career-high in points with 22 and field goals made with nine. Pryor led Sacred Heart with 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting.
 
Around the NEC
Atop the NEC standings last week, Sacred Heart dropped its game at Central Connecticut 79-64 that dropped the Pioneers to second at 8-1, while the Blue Devils improved to 3-7. Fairleigh Dickinson moved into first place at 8-1 with a 67-50 win over Wagner, who fell to 6-3 with its third straight loss. St. Francis Brooklyn took a 61-48 win over Stonehill and moved into third place at 7-3, while the Skyhawks fell to 2-8. Merrimack moved back to .500 in conference play with a 67-65 win over Saint Francis, while the Red Flash dropped to 4-6. On Thursday, Stonehill hosts Merrimack, Wagner hosts St. Francis Brooklyn, Fairleigh Dickinson hosts LIU and Sacred Heart hosts Saint Francis.
 
Next
Saint Francis faces Merrimack on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 3 p.m. on ESPN3. The game will mark two meetings between the programs in a three-game span.
