Softball Splits Midweek Doubleheader at Towson

TOWSON, Md. – Saint Francis University softball earned a 3-0 victory in game two after a 9-5 loss in game one to split its doubleheader at Towson.
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
» Rachel Marsden (2-9) earned the game two victory after she went a complete game and allowed no runs on four hits with no walks and six strikeouts.
» Ashley Wruble went 4-for-7 with one run scored, one triple and three RBIs.
» Olivia Ulam went 2-for-5 with three runs scored, one RBI and two walks.
» Brianna Sawyers went 3-for-8 with two runs scored, two doubles and one RBI.
 
TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME (Game One)
» Saint Francis took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning behind a fielder's choice, throwing error and Savannah Nash single. Towson responded in the bottom half with a three-run home run from Emma Armstrong.
» Towson extended its lead in the second inning with a run scored off a throwing error and bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and took a 5-3 advantage.
» Wruble had Saint Francis back within one with a third inning single and tied the game 5-5 with a triple in the fifth inning. In the bottom half, Towson scored three runs off an error and opened a three-run lead.
» The Tigers added a sixth inning run off a groundout before sealing its 9-5 game one victory.
 
TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME (Game Two)
» Marsden and Towson pitcher Cheyenne Beayon allowed no runs and just four hits combined through the first four innings of the game.
» Saint Francis broke through with a three-run rally with two outs in the fifth inning. Sawyers and Jordan Pietrzykoski hit back-to-back RBI doubles, followed by a Ulam single, to open a 3-0 lead.
» Towson produced two of its four hits in the seventh inning, but Sawyers turned a double play to end the game and seal Saint Francis' 3-0 shutout win.

FLASH NUGGETS
» Wruble produced her second three-hit game of the season in game one and is now 11-for-22 over Saint Francis' last seven games. She raised her team-leading batting average to .328.
» Marsden had her first game this season with no runs allowed and was her only complete game with no walks allowed. She earned her first victory since her second start of the season against UIC.
» Sawyers had her second multi-hit game of the season in game one and raised her season doubles total to three after she entered the day with one.
