Men’s Volleyball Claims 3-1 Win Over Merrimack

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Saint Francis University men's volleyball defeated Merrimack over four sets on Saturday to improve to 11-11 overall and 8-2 in the Northeast Conference.
 
>> Nathan Zini (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-La Salle Catholic) led the Red Flash with 15 kills on the day, while Brandon Dunz (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier) led the team at the net with 2.0 total blocks.
 
>> Blake Liprando (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Thomas Leahey (State College, Pa./State College Area) followed closely behind Zini with 10 kills apiece.
 
>> Liprando and Matthew Menosky (Washington, Pa./Bishop Canevin) also led Saint Francis with seven digs a piece for the team.
 
TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
With the Red Flash up 2-1 in the game, the fourth set would be the final turning point of the game. The final set was a back-and-forth battle between the Warriors and Red Flash, featuring 17 tied scores. However, with the set tied at 22, Saint Francis posted a 3-0 run to secure the fourth and final set, 25-22 for the win.
 
FLASH MOMENTS
The first set was a very close one featuring 15 tied scores throughout. However, with the Red Flash down 18-19 in set one, the team notched a 3-0 run to take a 21-19 lead over the Warriors and hold that lead for the remainder of the set. A final kill from Dunz gave the Red Flash the first set, 25-21.
 
Saint Francis started off the second set with a 4-2 run to take the lead and never look back. The Red Flash led by as many as 12 points in set two. A kill from Liprando gave the Red Flash the second set final point to secure set two, 25-13.
 
The Warriors found its stride in the third set by starting it off with a 5-1 run and never allowing Saint Francis to lead in set three. Merrimack led by as much as eight points in the set to go on and claim set three, 25-17.
 
FLASH NUGGETS
Leahey's six digs in Saturday's game was a new career high for the middle blocker.
 
In addition, with Saturday's win over the Warriors, the Red Flash increase its win streak to four.

The Red Flash will now turn its attention to a four-game home stanza to close out the regular season, beginning with a matchup against St. Francis Brooklyn on Friday, April 7 at 6:00 p.m.
