Softball Defeats Central Connecticut on Senior Day, Takes Series 2-1

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis University softball took the final game of the series against Central Connecticut 2-0 and earned a 2-1 series victory over the Blue Devils. The victory also set a new program record for wins in a career, 53, by Grace Vesco.
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
» Vesco (12-11) earned the victory with seven shutout innings and allowed two hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.
» Jordan Pietrzykoski went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
» In her third start of the season, Ashley Orischak went 2-for-2 with one run scored.
 
TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME
» Saint Francis and Central Connecticut completed two scoreless innings before a four hour in-game rain delay. Out of the delay, Vesco and Central Connecticut pitcher Kaylee Whittaker completed three more shutout innings.
» In the sixth inning, Pietrzykoski hit a one-out two-run single that drove in Orischak and Elliott Sanders and gave the Red Flash a 2-0 lead. With Central Connecticut unable to respond in the seventh, Saint Francis clinched its victory.

FLASH NUGGETS
» Vesco broke Ketarah DeVries' (2013-17) program record of 52 victories with her 53rd on Saturday. With eight strikeouts in the game, she is now three shy of Laura Caldwell's (2006-09) program record of 575 strikeouts.
» Pietrzykoski's two RBIs marked her fourth multi-RBI game of the season. With two hits, she raised her team-high batting average to .356 this season and she is hitting .491 in conference play.

UP NEXT
Saint Francis is scheduled to host Bucknell for a doubleheader on April 25, which marks its final non-conference and home games of the regular season.
