Softball Drops Series Finale Against Wagner

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis University softball dropped its series finale against Wagner 5-3, but still clinched the series victory after a doubleheader sweep on Sunday.
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
» Rachel Marsden went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a solo home run. On the mound, she gave up three runs on three hits in 1.2 innings pitched.
» Grace Vesco (9-8) took the loss and allowed two runs on five hits with five walks and nine strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched.
» Annabelle Farmer went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
 
TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME
» Wagner took an early 1-0 lead with a first-inning RBI double, but Marsden stranded two runners to limit the damage. In the second inning Wagner expanded its lead to 3-0 with a two-run ground-rule double.
» In the bottom of the second, Marsden hit a solo home run to cut into the deficit 3-1. Saint Francis then tied the game 3-3 in the fourth inning with a two-run double from Farmer.
» The Seahawks responded with a one-run single in the fifth to regain the lead 4-3, but Vesco stranded the bases loaded to limit the damage. In the seventh inning, Wagner extended its lead to 5-3 with a one-run double.
» Jordan Pietrzykoski hit a potential game-tying ball to the warning track in the seventh, but it was caught for the final out and Wagner clinched its victory.

FLASH NUGGETS
» Madelyn Wilson recorded a hit to extend her streak to 10 games, which is the longest by a Red Flash player this season. Jordan Pietrzykoski had her nine-game hitting streak snapped.
» Marsden's home run was the 20th of her collegiate career and she leads Saint Francis with five home runs and 18 RBIs this season.
