Softball Allows No Runs in Doubleheader Sweep of Fairleigh Dickinson

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis University softball defeated Fairleigh Dickinson twice with a 6-0 win in game one and 1-0 win in game two. The Red Flash have swept all-four of its conference doubleheaders this season.
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
» Rachel Marsden (7-9) earned the game two victory after she allowed no runs on two hits with one walk and three strikeouts. She went 4-for-7 at the plate with two runs scored, one home run and two RBIs.
» Grace Vesco (10-8) earned the game one victory with no runs allowed on four hits with two walks and 13 strikeouts.
» Brianna Sawyers went 4-for-6 with three runs scored, one double, two home runs and two RBIs.
 
TURNING POINTS OF GAME ONE
» Saint Francis took a 3-0 lead in the first inning when Jordan Pietrzykoski hit an RBI triple and then scored on a wild pitch. Savannah Nash capped the scoring with a one-run single up the middle.
» The Red Flash expanded the lead to 5-0 on a solo home run from Sawyers and RBI single from Marsden in the fourth inning.
» In the sixth inning, Marsden crushed a solo home run to give the Red Flash a 6-0 lead. After Vesco stranded two Fairleigh Dickinson players on base in the seventh inning, Saint Francis clinched its game one victory.
 
TURNING POINTS OF GAME TWO
» Marsden and Fairleigh Dickinson pitcher Alayna Savaglio allowed two hits combined in the first two and a half innings before Sawyers hit a solo home run in the third inning.
» With Saint Francis up 1-0, both pitchers only allowed four hits combined in the final three and a half innings before Saint Francis clinched its win.  

FLASH NUGGETS
» Vesco's 13 strikeouts were one shy of a career-high 14 she set this season against George Mason in a 10-inning victory. It ties her career-high in a seven-inning game. She is up to 535 strikeouts in her career, which is 40 shy of tying the program record. She now has 51 wins in her career, which is one shy of tying the program record.
» With the game two victory, Marsden now has 43 career wins – tied for fifth in program history. Marsden is yet to allow an earned run in conference play this season and has only four runs allowed in 28.2 innings pitched.
» Sawyers hit a home run in back-to-back games for the first time in her collegiate career and is the second Red Flash player to do it this season.
