Women's Soccer Wins Second Straight Game, 2-0 over Stonehill

BOX SCORE WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

>> The Saint Francis women's soccer team won their second game in a row with a 2-0 win on the road over Stonehill.

>> Rita Kendziora (Duncansville, Pa.) and Mercedez Paino (Langhorne, Pa.) scored their first goals of the season in the contest. Paino's goal was the first of her collegiate career.

>> Lauren Persichetty (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Claire Miko (Medina, Ohio.) each registered an assist.

>> Sarah McConnon (Springfield, Pa.) made 4 saves on the afternoon.

TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME

Saint Francis started well, generating a lot of pressure early. Kendziora's goal would be the reward for that early pressure.

Paino doubled the Red Flash lead in the second half by burying a chance created on a fantastic Miko through ball.

FLASH MOMENTS

Lauren Pyle (Lititz, Pa.) nearly connected with Raine Korpics (Walnutport, Pa.) on a free kick into the box in the third minute.

Persichetty made a run down the right wing and found a wide open Kendziora to put the Red Flash in front 12 minutes in.

Saint Francis was in their own defensive half throughout much of the middle portion of the match. The Skyhawks had a couple of dangerous chances deep in the box, but Perischetty stepped in with a strong tackle to clear the danger.

Stonehill nearly leveled the game in the 61st minute, but Bella Pesce (Hamilton, N.J.) stepped in front and deflected the shot off of her back.

Shortly thereafter, Miko hit a fantastic through ball to Paino, who tapped the chance home in the 62nd minute for her first career goal.

McConnon made a charging clearance on another Skyhawk chance in what was her best play of the game

FLASH NUGGETS

Miko, Kendziora and Persichetty have now all tallied at least one point in each of the last two games.

The 2-0 win marks the second consecutive clean sheet for the Red Flash. The last time Saint Francis had two clean sheets in a row was last season when they had three consecutive shutouts against Delaware, Niagara and Wagner.

McConnon has not allowed a goal in the last 174 minutes she has played.

UP NEXT
Saint Francis will head out to New Jersey for a matchup with Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday Oct. 1. Kick off is set for 12:00 p.m.
