Women’s Basketball Visits LIU on Friday Night

LORETTO, Pa. –
Saint Francis University women's basketball wraps up three straight games on the road Friday, Jan. 19 at LIU for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
 
Saint Francis Quick Hits
Destini Ward earned her second Northeast Conference Prime Performer selection in a row on Jan. 17. She is currently second in the NEC with 17.8 points per game through the first four conference contests. She is ninth overall in the conference with 10.9 points per game while Kendall Carruthers is sixth with 11.7. Ward has 10 double-digit scoring games and Carruthers has nine. Marina Artero regained the team lead with 5.0 rebounds per game after a career-high nine at FDU. Gibson (4.9) and Ward (4.3) follow Artero in rebounding. Kameryn Dorsey continues to pace Saint Francis with a conference 10th-best 2.5 assists per game.
 
Last Time Out
Saint Francis dropped a road matchup at FDU 64-54, despite 19 points from both Carruthers and Ward. The game was tied at eight three minutes in before FDU took a four-point, 19-15 lead at the end of the first. The Knights then opened a 36-22 lead at halftime behind a 17-7 advantage in the second. Saint Francis was down 39-22 30 seconds into the third quarter before a 17-7 run cut the deficit to 46-39. Unable to cut any closer into the deficit during the fourth quarter, FDU sealed its 10-point victory with 5-of-6 converted free throws in the final minute. 
 
Scouting LIU
The Sharks enter Friday's game with a 1-2 conference and 3-12 overall record. LIU has a 54-52 conference victory over Stonehill and two conference losses 75-66 to Wagner and 67-56 to Sacred Heart. The Sharks most recently took a 66-58 win at Chicago State, who will be a member of the NEC next season. Ashley Austin ranks third in the NEC with 15.0 points per game overall and 16.7 per game during conference play. She is the only LIU player averaging double-digit points this season. Austin is also second in the conference with 3.7 assists and 2.6 steals per game. Mariah Elohim is second on the team with 9.7 points per game and has 13.7 per game during conference play.
 
All-Time vs. LIU
Saint Francis holds a 54-21 all-time advantage over LIU and a 20-14 advantage when facing the Sharks on the road. Saint Francis has won five of the last six meetings, which included a sweep of last season's two games. The programs first met in 1986, a 96-57 Saint Francis victory, and the Red Flash won 10 of the first 11 meetings between 1986-92.
 
Around the NEC
Le Moyne defeated Sacred Heart 60-56 and now remains the only undefeated team in conference play at 3-0. The Pioneers fell to 3-1 and remain second in the conference. Central Connecticut lost 71-53 to Merrimack as the Blue Devils moved to 2-1 and the Warriors picked up their first conference win. FDU moved to 2-2 in conference with a 64-54 win over Saint Francis that dropped the Red Flash to 1-3. Stonehill earned its second victory in a row 67-44 over Wagner. The Skyhawks are 2-2, while the Seahawks fell to 1-2.
