The Saint Francis University bowling team will travel to compete in the Northeast Classic on Jan 19-21 at the Bowlerama Bowling Alley in New Castle, Del.
The Red Flash (26-27, 9-5 NEC) are set to compete in a 36-team field, one of the largest tournaments since the NCAA began sponsoring bowling in 2004. Last year's Northeast Classic, a similarly popular event, saw 33 teams travel to the event, the second largest showing since 2004. Nine of the top ten teams in the nation will be competing in the tournament, as well as all but six ranked programs in the NCAA.
NEW YEAR, NEW RANKINGS
The December rankings came out from the National Tenpin Coaches Association, and while the Red Flash again picked up votes from the nation's bowling coaches, they once again fell short of the top 25. Four Northeast Conference teams were ranked in the second polls of the year, second in the nation among all conferences.
NORTHEAST CLASSIC X NORTHEAST CONFERENCE
Not only will Northeast Conference member Sacred Heart be hosting the tournament, but more than half of the eight NEC bowling programs are scheduled to compete in the mid-January tournament. Along with Saint Francis and Sacred Heart, the tournament will feature Long Island, Merrimack, Niagara and Wagner in the tournament's massive field of competitors.
