LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis University women's basketball is set to face Le Moyne for the first time in program history on Sunday, Jan. 21 for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
Saint Francis Quick Hits
Kendall Carruthers scored a career-high 30 points and went 8-of-9 from three-point territory last game against LIU. Both marks were the most by a Red Flash player since Jess Kovatch scored 38 points and converted eight three-pointers on March 11, 2019 against Bryant. Her eight converted three-pointers are tied for sixth in single-game program history. With her 88.9-percent mark from three-point territory, Carruthers had the third-highest single-game percentage by any NCAA Division I player this season (player must have converted at least seven three-pointers). Carruthers ranks second in the Northeast Conference with 17.2 points per game during conference play and fifth overall with 12.7.
Destini Ward had a streak of five straight double-digit scoring games end with six points at LIU. She still ranks fourth in the NEC with 15.4 points per game in conference play.
Kameryn Dorsey tied a career high with seven assists at LIU and she ranks fourth in the NEC with 4.0 per game in conference play. She also set a new career high with six rebounds and three steals.
Julianna Gibson paces Saint Francis in rebounds with 5.1 per game this season.
Last Time Out
Saint Francis wrapped up three games in a row on the road with a 72-64 loss to LIU. The Sharks jumped out to a 24-15 lead at the end of the first before a 14-9 advantage in the second saw LIU ahead 38-24 at halftime. Saint Francis was down 49-34 with 4:31 remaining in the third and ended the quarter on a 11-7 run to cut the deficit to 56-45. The Red Flash trailed 68-54 with three minutes remaining in the game before a 10-0 run cut the deficit to 68-64 with 1:15 remaining in the game. Saint Francis was unable to produce any more points and LIU clinched its eight-point victory after four converted free throws.
Scouting Le Moyne
The Dolphins are the last remaining undefeated NEC team in conference play and are 6-11 overall in their first season as a Division I program. Le Moyne earned its first victory in Division I with a 63-61 win over UMass Lowell in overtime on Nov. 18. Le Moyne won three of its four conference games by double-digit points and the other victory came 60-56 on Jan. 15 over reigning NEC Champion Sacred Heart. The Dolphins are led by Lytoya Baker's 12.3 points and conference-leading 8.2 rebounds per game. She also adds a team-high 1.7 steals and 0.9 blocks per game. She has six double doubles this season. Le Moyne has three players, Baker (14.5), Haedyn Roberts (10.8) and Sierra Linnin (10.3), averaging double-digit points during conference play.
All-Time vs. Le Moyne
Saint Francis and Le Moyne will face each other for the first time in program history. Saint Francis defeated the previous most recent Division II-to-Division I reclassifying program in the NEC, Stonehill, in both games during its inaugural campaign last season.
Around the NEC
Le Moyne (4-0) remained the only undefeated team in the NEC after a 57-44 victory over Central Connecticut (2-2). FDU (3-2) earned a 61-50 victory over Stonehill (2-3). Merrimack (2-3) earned its second victory in a row 72-45 over Wagner (1-3). LIU (2-2) took a home victory 72-64 over Saint Francis (1-4). On Saturday, LIU visits Central Connecticut, Merrimack visits Stonehill, Le Moyne visits Saint Francis and Sacred Heart visits Wagner.
