SELECT GAME NOTES VS. CCSU (FULL GAME NOTES PDF)
FRANKIES TIDBITS IN A FLASH
• Thursday's game between Saint Francis and CCSU marks the 53rd meeting in the all-time series, dating back to the 1994-95 season.
• The Red Flash leads the series 28-24, but the Blue Devils hold a 15-9 edge in New Britain.
• During head coach
Rob Krimmel's tenure as head coach, Saint Francis is 6-4 against the Blue Devils in Connecticut, including three-straight wins before the CCSU win last year at Detrick Gymnasium.
• Krimmel is one win away from his 100th NEC regular season win. The 12th-year head coach recorded his first win as a head coach against the Blue Devils with a 67-60 win at DeGol Arena on January 3, 2013.
• With a win, Krimmel would become the 12th head coach in league history to reach 100 league regular season wins, joining Tom Green (FDU, 263), Howie Dickenman (CCSU, 187), Ron Ganulin (St. Francis Brooklyn 129), Dave Calloway (Monmouth, 127), Dave Magarity (Saint Francis/Marist, 117), Jim Phelan (Mount St. Mary's, 116), Glenn Braica (St. Francis Brooklyn, 116), Andrew Toole (Robert Morris, 115), Bashir Mason (Wagner, 111), Wayne Szoke (Monmouth, 109) and Dave Bike (Sacred Heart, 105).
• If the Red Flash win a game this weekend, it would be only the second milestone win for Krimmel out of the state of Pennsylvania, joining his 50th NEC win at St. Francis Brooklyn on February 10, 2018.
• All of his other milestone wins came in the Keystone State. Along with his first win against the Blue Devils, his 50th win was against Bryant on January 19, 2017, at DeGol Arena. His 100th and 150th did not happen at home but did occur in the state. He earned his 100th win at Saint Joseph's on November 30, 2019, and his 150th win at Lehigh on November 29, 2023.
• The next three games in which he could reach the mark have connections to earlier milestones. With a win against CCSU, his first and 100th NEC win would be against the Blue Devils. If it happens at LIU on Saturday, his 50th and 100th NEC win would have occured in Brooklyn. The team returns home to host Stonehill on February 10, the sixth anniversary of his 50th NEC win to the day, which is almost what happened for Krimmel's 150th career win early this year after he won it one day before the fourth anniversary of his 100th win.
• Krimmel won his 150th game on his second attempt at the milestone after falling to Niagara 69-61 four days before Lehigh.
• For some, the last two games have rekindled memories of Michigan's Fab Five after the Frankies started five freshman.
• Before the game on Thursday, the Frankies started four freshman together for 10-consecutive games. Kentucky and Holy Cross are the other teams in the nation to start four newcomers in the same game.
• Coppin State has started six different freshman this season, but three starting together has been the Eagles' max. Kentucky has called five freshman's names this season, but only four at a time.
• Coming into the season, four freshmen in the starting lineup was a program record. The last time the feat happened was against Mount St. Mary's on February 9, 2002.
• Freshman
Eli Wilborn joined an exclusive club of players to haul in at least 15 rebounds in a game under Krimmel. Earl Brown, Ronnie Drinnon, Josh Nebo, Keith Braxton, Mark Flagg, and fellow freshman
Aidan Harris, who had 15 boards at Lehigh, are all members of the 15+-rebound club.
• Drinnon had nine games with at least 15 boards in his career, including a pair of 20-rebound performances. Brown had five 15+ rebound games, including a DeGol Arena record 25 caroms in Krimmel's first-ever win against CCSU. Braxton posted three 15+ rebound games, including a Krimmel-era freshman record of 19 against Stony Brook on December 17, 2016, while Josh Nebo had a pair of 15+ boards. Flagg, who was the last player to have more than 16 with his 17 boards against George Washington on November 9, 2021, Wilborn and Harris each have one.
• Harris and Wilborn are the first set of teammates with 15+ rebound games since Nebo had 16 boards against Duquesne and Braxton's 19 rebounds against Stony Brook during the 2016-17 season.
• Starting with Thursday's game at CCSU, Saint Francis will play five of its final eight games away from Loretto. The squad concludes its current road trip at LIU on Saturday.
AN SFU WIN WOULD
• Be the 100th league win of head coach Rob Krimmel's career
• Improve Red Flash's record to 7-4 under Krimmel at Detrick Gymnasium
• Be the team's first road win in NEC play and first this season since defeating American on December 2 in the nation's capital
• Match last season's win total of three wins on the road
LAST TIME OUT
• Merrimack defeated Saint Francis 74-55 on Saturday in the first meeting between the two teams this year.
• Freshman
Eli Wilborn registered a career-high 19 points and 16 rebounds to pace the Red Flash, while freshman
Bobby Rosenberger III chipped in 10 points.
• Wilborn became the first freshman nationwide this season to finish with at least 19 points, 16 caroms and three rejections in a game. The last freshman to achieve these thresholds was Marshall's Micah Handlogten, who put up 19 points, 19 rebounds and five blocks against Coastal Carolina on January 7, 2023.
LAST TIME WE MET
• Despite Saint Francis holding a 36-32 lead at halftime, CCSU rallied to defeat Saint Francis 75-61 on January 13.
• Freshman
Carlos Lopez, Jr. paced the Red Flash with 21 points, one point less than the career best he set 15 days prior at home against Campbell on December 30.
•
Allan Jeanne-Rose paced the Blue Devils with 24 points, while
Jordan Jones and
Tre Breland each added 13 points.
ABOUT THE BLUE DEVILS
• CCSU comes into the contest 12-8 overall and 6-1 in NEC play after defeating Wagner 69-68 in overtime on Saturday. The Blue Devils have a first-place showdown at Merrimack looming on Saturday.
• Senior
Kellen Amos paced CCSU against the Seahawks with 17 points, while senior
Jordan Jones (16 points), senior
Tre Breland (13 points) and graduate student
Allan Jeanne-Rose (13 points) also found double figures.
• Jeanne-Rose leads the team with 15.6 points per game, while Jones (13.1 ppg.) and Amos (11.9 ppg.) are also averaging double figures in points. Amos powers the team with 5.3 rebounds per game.
TRENDING UP
• Freshman
Eli Wilborn has registered double figures in points in five-straight games and in seven of the eight NEC tilts. He is averaging 13.8 points and 9.1 rebounds per game in league games. The freshman has two 19-point performances in his last three games.
• Wilborn's 16 rebounds against Merrimack were the second most by an NEC player this season and second most on Saturday. It also ranked fourth among Division I freshman this season. The Connecticut native, who will be playing about 15 minutes from his hometown at CCSU on Thursday, has grabbed at least five boards in 13 of his last 14 games, including 10 games with at least seven caroms.
• According to @nechoopsron, Wilborn, who is second in the NEC in blocks (1.75), second in field goal percentage (58.6) and fourth in rebounding (7.1), is looking to become the first freshman since CCSU's Kyle Vinales (scoring, free throws, 3-pointers made) to finish in the Top-5 in the NEC in three categories in 2011-12. Prior to that, you'd have to go all the way back to the 1999-00 season when future NEC Player of the Year Corsley Edwards ended his freshman campaign rated in the Top-5 in rebounding, field goal percentage blocks.
• Freshman
Bobby Rosenberger III notched his eighth 10+ point game of the season and has four games each at home and on the road in double figures points. He also has eight games with at least five rebounds, while he two best scoring outputs also resulted in his best days on the glass. Rosenberger had a then career-high 19 points and eight rebounds at Penn State on November 14 before establishing new highs in both categories with 21 points and nine rebounds against LIU on January 19.
• Sophomore
Miles Webb averaged 12.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in the last two games. He posted a career-high 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three blocks in the win against Sacred Heart on Thursday and then had five points and six rebounds against Merrimack on Saturday. The last time he reached double figures before Sacred Heart was when he returned near his hometown of Arlington, Va., and posted 10 points at American on December 2. Since that date against the Eagles, the sophomore had 21 points in the next 10 games and went 8-for-20 from the floor in that stretch before his outburst against Sacred Heart.
• Freshman
Carlos Lopez, Jr. registered a career-high seven assists against Merrimack. It was the second-straight game the team had a 7+ assist game and the third time in the last nine games. Freshman
Aaron "Ace" Talbert posted both marks with seven helpers against Sacred Heart on Thursday and a team-best nine dimes against Campbell on December 30.
