Men’s Volleyball Falls To No. 5 Ohio State In Four Sets

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW 
>>Saint Francis men's volleyball took a 3-1 set loss to No. 5 Ohio State in the 2024 season opener.

>>Andrew Deardorff (Itasca, Ill./Lake Park) led the team offensively with 18 kills.

TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME 
Saint Francis won a close first set, 28-26, off of 14 kills and a hitting percentage of .426 as a team. Set two started out the same, with both teams locked in at 17-17. Then, Ohio State took over, going on a 8-3 run to take set two, 25-20. The Buckeyes carried the momentum over to the last two sets to win the match.

FLASH MOMENTS
Set one was a tightly-contested affair, with Saint Francis having the largest lead at 7-4. Ohio State had a 24-23 and 25-24 lead at the end of the set, but the Red Flash held off both match points. With the score tied at 25 apiece, two Deardorff kills and a Michael Mosbacher (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) engineered a 3-1 Red Flash run to help them win set one, 28-26.

The third set started out in similar fashion to the first two sets, with the score being 5-5 at one point. Ohio State then went on a 9-4 run and never relinquished the lead, winning the third set by a score of 25-15.

Ohio State continued the momentum from the previous two sets, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the fourth set and never looking back. The Buckeyes ended up winning the last set, 25-18.

FLASH NUGGETS
Nathan Zini (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-La Salle Catholic) and Brady Stump (York, Pa./York Suburban) each tallied eight kills.

Senior setter Ryan Parker (Long Island, N.Y., Northport) recorded 33 assists in tonight's match. He now sits at 1,425 career assists and is 75 away from becoming the fourth player in program history to accumulate 1,500 career assists.
