FLASH MOMENTS
It was almost déjà vu all over again for the Red Flash's first goal of the game. After receiving a penalty corner, Zavaleta set up Waldspurger for the first tally at 4:25 into the match. The duo made the same connection for the team's first marker in the 2-0 win at Sacred Heart on Friday to improve to 3-0 in NEC play for the second time in team history.
Emilee Myers had a shot saved off a penalty corner as time expired in the first half.Â
DiGenova made a save on a penalty stroke attempt in the 32nd minute to keep it a one-goal margin. The sophomore had eight saves in the final 30 minutes.Â
Waldspurger had three scoring chances blocked in the fourth quarter.
FLASH NUGGETS
After turning the trick in her freshman year, Waldspurger has scored in back-to-back games for the second time in her career. The junior has scored in seven matches in her three seasons and has only scored in a loss in the second game when she has scored in consecutive games. Waldspurger has 10 goals and 10 assists for 30 points in her career, including three goals and three assists for nine points in 2024.
Zavaleta has posted a career-high in points for one season thanks to three goals and five assists for 11 points. The senior registered 10 points in each of her last two seasons for her previous best. For her career, she has nine tallies and 17 assists for 35 points, which puts her two assists away from the top 10 in assists and four points from the top 10 in points. Zavaleta has registered a point in eight of the 11 games this season and in three straight. She posted a point in five straight in her sophomore year.Â
The 10 saves for DiGenova were the second most of her career after her career-best 19 stops against Ball State in the season opener. The two goals allowed marked the first time in eight games. She allowed more than one goal in a contest and just the third time in 11 games.
Despite the loss, the Red Flash is still off to its second-best start in team history at 7-4—in 2012, 2016, 2017, and 2018. The 2014 team started the campaign 10-1.
