FRANKIES TIDBITS IN A FLASH
• Saint Francis begins its 13th season under head coach
Rob Krimmel and 119th in program history at Dayton on Monday. It marks the eighth meeting in the all-time series dating back to the 1954-55 season. This will be the seventh meeting in Datyon and the first since the 2013-14 season. The Flyers lead the matchup 5-2.
• The first battle between the Flyers and the Red Flash was 70 years ago at the height of the Golden Era of Red Flash basketball. The Flyers defeated the Frankies 79-73 in overtime of the NIT Final Four on March 17, 1955. NBA Hall of Famer Maurice Stokes paced Saint Francis with a then program-record 43 points and would be named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player despite the team finishing fourth. Stokes finished the season with 760 points and 733 rebounds and was drafted second overall by the Rochester Royals.
• This is only the second meeting between the two teams since the two teams squared off six times from 1954-55 to 1965-66. The NIT meeting was the only game not played in Dayton. Saint Francis's two wins in the series came in 1958-59 (56-53) and 1964-65 (80-43).
• Krimmel was in his second season at the last meeting between the teams. The Flyers defeated the Red Flash 70-56. Dayton head coach
Anthony Grant will face the Frankies for the first time as a head coach.
• Saint Francis has opened the season on the road all 13 times in Krimmel's tenure as a head coach. The squad is looking for its second season-opening win under Krimmel and first since defeating Pittsburgh 80-70 on November 25, 2020.
• It will be the sixth time in 13 seasons the team will open the year on the road against the Atlantic 10 after opening a campaign against Fordham (2013-14), VCU (2019-20), George Washington (2021-22), and St. Bonaventure (2016-17, 2022-23).
• In addition, it will be the second time under Krimmel that Saint Francis will open the season in Ohio and the first since the 2014-15 season at Cincinnati. The Frankies have also opened in the Buckeye State against Ohio (1984-85), Kent State (1985-86), and Xavier (1995-95) to mark the fifth time the team has said hi to a season in Ohio.
• The Red Flash will open up the season on the road for the 40th time since the 1950-51 season, and for the 18th time since the turn of the century.
• The squad is 36-38 in season openers since the 1950-51 campaign. Saint Francis is 32-3 at home and 4-35 on the road in that stretch.
• Saint Francis travels to Clemson on Friday to continue its five-game road trip to start the season.
AN SFU WIN WOULD
• Be the Red Flash's second season-opening win under head coach Rob Krimmel and first since defeating Pittsburgh 80-70 on November 25, 2020
• Be the team's first win against an Atlantic 10 opponent since defeating Saint Joseph's 79-73 on November 30, 2019 in what was Krimmel's 100th career win
• Be the first win in the Buckeye State since defeating Youngstown State 66-65 on November 29, 2008
• Be the fifth season opening win since 1950-51 on the road
