Talbert Registers 17 Points For Saint Francis Men's Basketball At Clemson

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Saint Francis drops an 88-62 decision on Friday at Clemson in non-conference men's basketball action.
>> Ace Talbert paced the Red Flash with 17 points, while Jeremy Clayville (11 points) and Bobby Rosenberger III (10 points) registered double figures for the second-straight game.
>> Valentino Pinedo added a career-high eight points and five rebounds.

TURNING POINTS OF THE MATCH
Clayville has hit the shot in the first half to bring the Red Flash with four points of the margin in the first two contests. However, in both games, the opponent went on a run to pull away from the Red Flash.

On Friday, after Clayville cut the margin to four points as part of an 8-4 spurt, Clemson answered to close the half with a 27-10 run to grab a 41-20 advantage going into the locker room and withstood a second-half Flash surge to earn the win in the first meeting between the two teams.

FLASH QUOTES
"It was a great opportunity to come out and play in an incredible building against an excellent basketball team. I am proud of the way our guys responded. We didn't back down and did a good job of battling their big guys. Give them the credit. They made a bunch of threes with some outstanding perimeter players. As this group continues to grow, execution, both offensively and defensively, will be important, especially in a game like this where the margin of error is so slim. Guys were playing with a lot of energy. We got better as a team today. " - head coach Rob Krimmel on the game

"Ace early on he struggled in our scrimmages and against Dayton. He is such a tough player. He works so hard. He is captain for a reason. Ace came out and played really well after a tough opener; that is who he is. He is a battler, a competitor, and I am excited to see him build on that one good performance and make that two, three, four great performances because he works so hard at it." - Krimmel on Ace Talbert's performance

"I love having Jeremy's energy off the bench. He is shifty with the basketball and does a good job of getting his shot off quickly. I love his confidence. That spark in the first two games he has provided has been helpful." - Krimmel on Jeremy Clayville

"I told these guys that the standard they hold for themselves is not as high as the standard that I hold for them." - Krimmel on the expectations the players have for themselves

FLASH MOMENTS
After Clemson jumped out to a 10-2 lead three minutes and 23 seconds into the contest, Saint Francis scored eight of the following 12 points to cut the margin to 14-10 with 12:19 on the clock in the first half. Talbert scored the first four points of the run, and then, similar to his exploits in the first half against Dayton, Clayville cut the score to four points on a 3-pointer. The freshman had nine points in a 10-3 run in the season opener to cut the margin to 23-20 against the Flyers in the Frankies big run for that game.

In the second half, the Frankies went on a 12-0 run over two minutes and 58 seconds. Talbert was the catalyst of the spurt with seven points, while Kelly added a 3-ball, and Rosenberger also had a bucket.

Clayville continued the Red Flash's success with five points to power an 8-2 spurt to continue to chip away at a once 29-point margin to make it a 14-point game with 8:48 left. Talbert capped the spurt with a triple.

FLASH NUGGETS
After going scoreless in the season opener against Dayton, Talbert notched his 13th double-figure performance of his career. The 17 points are the third-most points Talbert has scored in a game in his career and the most he has registered on the road. The sophomore captain was 6-for-15 from the floor, 3 of 5 from 3-point land, and 2 of 3 from the foul line on the night.

Clayville has posted double figures in his first two collegiate games. The New Jersey native has made his first two baskets from behind the arc in both games and is 7-for-13 from behind the arc this season. The freshman was 4-for-8 from the floor and 3 of 5 behind the arc against Clemson.

Rosenberger has registered double figures in points in both games this season and the 16th time in his career. The sophomore has 10+ points in eight of his last 12 contests dating back to last season.

Pinedo finished the game with a career-high eight points and five rebounds. After spending two seasons at East Carolina, the junior is in his first season with the Red Flash. His previous career best was five points against UT Arlington on November 23, 2022, and four boards against Presbyterian on November 12, 2022.

It was the 26th time Saint Francis played a Power 5 team under head coach Rob Krimmel in his 13 seasons and the 12th time he faced the Atlantic Coast Conference. He has led the Frankies to an 80-70 win against Pittsburgh in the 2020-21 season opener for the team's only win against the conference.
