Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Saint Francis Men's Basketball Downs Sister School, Franciscan, 104-47

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> If you are a fan of the movie Rudy and the scene at the end where the entire stadium is chanting Rudy, senior Brendan Scanlon, a native of State College, had that moment in his collegiate game four years ago against Franciscan. The walk-on then suffered a leg injury during preseason in 2023-24 and finally made it back so he could play against Franciscan on Thursday night. He finished with a career-high six points and has 10 of his career 12 points against the Barons.
>> Saint Francis defeated Franciscan 104-47 in non-conference men's basketball action.
>> Valentino Pinedo paced the Red Flash with 14 points and five rebounds. Jeremy Clayville (13 points, seven assists), Juan Cranford, Jr. (13 points, six rebounds), and Bobby Rosenberger III (13 points) also had double figures for the Frankies.

TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME
Saint Francis jumped out to a 20-8 lead and never lost its double-digit advantage. Cranford scored eight of the first 11 points in the first three minutes and 27 seconds. Rosenberger also had seven points in this spurt, while Daemar Kelly hit a 3-pointer, and Pinedo scored in the lane.

FLASH QUOTES
"To see Brendan Scanlon out on the basketball court again and competing is very impressive and special. It's something as a head coach I will always remember because of what he had to go through to get back on the basketball court. He's such a hard worker. He loves the game of basketball, and to see him out there having success was a really neat way to end the game and surely an opportunity for our guys to celebrate him and all that he's meant to the program for four years." – head coach Rob Krimmel on Brendan Scanlon

"We want to be going up, and we don't want to be a roller coaster. You can control that by valuing each possession and each opportunity to generate good habits. I thought that they responded tonight. I thought we did an excellent job offensively, sharing the basketball, and defensively, we stuck to the game plan." – Krimmel on the game

FLASH
MOMENTS
The Red Flash would close the first half after its opening run with a 30-17 run to go into the locker room with a 50-25 edge. Clayville posted eight of his 13 points in this spurt, while Riley Parker also hit a pair of baskets from downtown.

In the second half, Saint Francis added to its lead and saw Scanlon score six points and Trey Weiand with a career-high six points. Zachary Jones and Carson Rhodes also notched their first collegiate points as 14 of the 16 players recorded a point.

FLASH NUGGETS
Pinedo played in his first game at DeGol Arena after missing four games due to an injury. He returned after missing four games on Tuesday at Maryland, playing 10 minutes with two rebounds and an assist. Thursday, the Red Flash faithful saw what he had done on the road after he posted his third double-figure performance and the second most of his career.

Coming off his first career 20-point game at Maryland, Cranford registered his sixth straight game in double figures and is averaging 14.0 points per game in that stretch. The freshman shot a perfect 5-for-5 from the field on the night and 3 of 3 from behind the arc. He has hit three treys in each of his last three games. The six rebounds tied a career-high that he hit against Penn State Shenango on December 4.

Clayville has registered double figures in three consecutive games for the first time in his career and the sixth time this season. The seven assists were a new career high and marked the second time in his career that he has handed out five helpers in a game.

Rosenberger notched his 10th game with at least 10 points. He has had streaks of five and four games in a row in double figures in points and looks to start a new streak with Thursday's performance. The sophomore captain also had four assists for the second time this season.

Scanlon played in his first game since appearing for one minute with two free throws against LIU on February 18, 2023.

Parker finished the game with nine points, four rebounds, and three assists.

Saint Francis had 28 assists in the game, its third-highest total this season, after 31 helpers against Penn State Schuylkill on November 20 and 30 dimes against Penn State Shenango.

The 47 points allowed are the second-fewest under head coach Rob Krimmel and marked the fourth time the team has allowed under 50 points in a game under the coach. It was the 16th game against a non-Division I, but this was the first time a non-Division I team was held under 50 points in a game under Krimmel.

Saint Francis lost to Maryland 111-57 on Tuesday, turned around, and won 104-47 on Thursday. It is the first time since the 1971-72 season the Frankies allowed 100 points and scored 100 points in back-to-back games. That team turned the trick twice that season, and it marked the eighth time in program history Saint Francis has had 100 points go both ways in consecutive games, but the previous seven occurred between 1963-72.

The Red Flash is 4-1 at home for the first time since the 2019-20 season. The squad has scored over 100 points twice this season and 88 points four times on the year, all at home. It was the 13th time under the coach that the squad scored 100 points in a game. The Frankies have also won five non-conference games for the second straight year and third time under the coach.

The win was No. 97 for Krimmel at DeGol Arena, needing three wins at home to become the first men's basketball coach and second coach in Saint Francis history with 100 wins at DeGol Arena. Krimmel has 98 wins at home, but a 60-57 win against Navy on November 11, 2013 was at the War Memorial in Johnstown.
